Here it is folks.

The chance to list your favourites in order.
Not who you think will finish high in the carji, not who you think will get 32 disposals.

Your favourites. Maybe it's the ones you'd like to pat on the head, tap on the bum (if you're that way inclined).

Pick your favourite 25 in order. And use your own selection criteria. Use personal bias if you like.
Not 40, 25 :D

The point of the thread? I've forgotten already.

This is hard, but I guess I'm basing it on what I've seen and what I hope to see in the future;

Enright - Probably the second best player in the competition right now, and he's getting better. Will be in the AFL's next Team of the Century.
Guthrie - Future Enright as a midfielder, absolute gun in the making. Our next captain.
Taylor - Named my dog after him, enough said.
Selwood - Absolute star.
Lonergan - He's overcome more than almost anyone to play at this level, and just does his job week in week out.
Bartel - Not the player he once was, but I used to feel so good when the ball was in his hands.
Johnson - He's a genius and a dickhead.
Christensen - Barring injury he'll be our best player once Selwood retires.
Hawkins - A lot of good memories around Tomahawk.
Horlin-Smith - Maybe I like him more because he has so many haters now, but I like him and I want him to prove those that have written him off wrong.
Menzel - I just want to see him out on the park.
Simpson - Future All Australian, book it now.
Blicavs - How good could he be? No one knows.
Motlop - Because he's so much better than Cyril Rioli and Hawthorn fans know it deep down.
Hamling - There's something about him I like, I hope he can build the body to be a key position player.
Caddy - Another future gun. The only thing keeping me from liking him more is that he seems to be a bit of a tool.
Thurlow - This kid is the next Guthrie, who is the next Enright, who is the best small defender of all time. Ice in his veins.
Murdoch - I go hot and cold on him, but he's got a lot of upside.
Kelly - Perennially underrated, which is why I have him so low. Best tackler in the game.
Stokes - I love how he's stepped up and moved on from some pretty disappointing off field behaviour.
McCarthy - Haven't seen a lot, but I like what I've seen.
Vardy/Brown - One of these pair have to make it and becoming imposing forwards. If both do and Tomahawk is fit we'll have the best forwardline in the competition.

For me favourites come in a few categories. There are players that just have so much ability it's sickening, guys who are remarkably consistent over a long period of time, guys who have overcome injuries, and others of course who just have a playing style you like.

The short list (I can't name 25 without thinking through it) would be Enright, Hawkins, Lonergan, Simpson, Stokes (believe it or not), Selwood, Guthrie, Horlin-Smith and Brown. I'm sure I'll add others.

Enright for producing such good football for so long. Lonergan for overcoming ridiculous odds to even play the sport again, let alone to come back and produce career-best form. Simpson and Brown both for coming back from so many injuries (hopefully I'll be adding Menzel, Cowan and Vardy to that soon). Selwood for being a top player almost from his first game, which is incredibly rare (rarer than people think). Stokes for proving me wrong spectacularly and completely reinventing himself as a player. Guthrie for a degree of composure and calmness I don't think I've ever seen in a young player. Horlin-Smith for showing that vision and football skills can still flourish in an idiotic age when every other fan is obsessed with pace and "x-factor".

Lastly, Hawkins (and also Brown and Lonergan) for showing morons like me that footballers take time to develop, and if we were just a tad more patient we might appreciate the difficulty involving in making it at the top level.

Really like the idea of the thread, vc.

And then I saw where you had our #44!

I take it your list is not in reverse order?:D

I know we all have our different criteria for assessing our favourites but I struggle to see how anyone could make a selection of players from our current list and not have Corza in the top 10. Outstanding player but genuinely seems to be an even better bloke.

Half the players in front of him on your list have never played an AFL game for the Cats.

Anyway, having had my ten cents about your selections, I'll supply mine. From 1-25.;)

VC's list is based on the order of the player's numbers, goyoucatters. ;)

Geelong crazy 26 says Tom Hawkins is no 1 on his list. Has been since I used to watch him play APS school firsts for Melbourne grammar.

Never forget the game against scotch college where he was being triple teamed all game, and right on the half time siren he took a huge speccy on the head of one of them while the other two went up and tried to spoil, then he went back and slotted it from 45. Had a man crush on him ever since seeing him destroy sides as a junior like nobody else has ever done at juniors before

I'll give it a go;

Selwood-has everything I like in a player, perfect footballer :thumbsu:
Simpson-there's just something so loveable about him lol!!
Enright-has been one of my faves since the 'blue jocks' passage of play
SJ-love him and hate him lots of times each game
Bartel-would be up there for his looks even if he couldn't play. Seriously great player though
Hawkins-who doesn't love watching him in action
Taylor-super reliable
Menzel-please come back :(
Duncan-love his steady improvement
Christensen-so good to watch
Varcoe-bring on the season
Stokes-always had a soft spot
Motlop-nice singer, great player (of guitar and footy)
Kelly-champion
Mackie-love his loyalty and passion for the club
Lonergan-Mr.Courageous
Caddy-very handsome  Think he can play a bit too
Guthrie-sweet and humble
Brown-come on Brown, make it your year
Then the younger guys;
Kersten-please be our own Pav
McCarthy-so far so good
Horlin-Smith-seems very sweet and mature
Schroder
Murdoch
Burbury to round it out :thumbsu:

Bundy - I love a good rum and I have his players gate password...
Burbury - Will become a star. I took a liking to his approach early on in the piece
Selwood - Super player, and I love his no holds barred approach.
Guthrie - Impressed with what he has to offer, and confident he'll become a star.
Stokes - Always been a huge fan even when others weren't. Called for him to become a midfielder and hasn't looked back.
Varcoe -Mr Magic has an excitement factor that makes me moist.
Caddy - Love his style
Bews - Sadly yet to figure, but I've followed him throughout his junior career
Johnson - thorough enjoyment to watch, albeit frustrating at times.
Duncan - Wasn't big on him previously, but now his defensive side has improved, I'm a big fan.
Motlop - A little low I know considering he makes me wet, but he will rise.
Hawkins - Love the big guy

That's my dirty dozen.

Selwood - he just "embodies" everything I love about this club - courageous, selfless, brilliant captain...
Johnson - Like Ablett Snr, you come to a game expecting the unexpected from SJ, and more often than not he delivers.
Enright - like a bottle of good red wine.
Bartel - was my No.1 for many years. Can still stamp his mark
Hawkins - a fit & firing Tomahawk is scary to watch. Glad he plays for us
Taylor - Mr Reliable, Mr Fixit. He's everything
Mackie - The quiet achiever, IMO.
Stokes - the way he has reinvented himself amazes me.
Duncan - You have a sense that he could be THE next big thing in our midfield
Kelly -Tough as nails. Often overshadowed by others
Motlop - Another season like 2013 and he'll be the pin-up boy
Lonergan - the Rock of Gibralter. Will miss his "big games" against Hawks now that Buddy is gone
Christensen - a bit like Duncan, IMO.
Guthrie - our new Enright?
Caddy - rising with a bullet. Expect him to have a break-out year
Varcoe - could be anything or nothing
Hunt - will start like a house on fire, get injured, and struggle thereafter. Seems to be the pattern with THunt
Murdoch - with more game time, hope he explodes in 2014
Thurlow -ditto above
Brown - ditto above. Showed in the NAB Challenge that he has something to offer

Five or six years ago my favourite player list was headlined by Chapman, Ottens, Mooney, Ling and Ablett. How times change....

My current favourites are:

Guthrie - I was already a huge fan before last year's finals but he took his game to another level (on AFL360 last night, Selwood called Guthrie our best player over the three finals). He is already a reliable and rock solid player and he hasn't even begun his ascent to his peak.

Hawkins - I remember meeting him at a NAB Cup game in 2007 (his first season) and was struck by how polite and down to earth he was despite all the hype around him. His talent was obvious from day one but like so many players, it took him a few years to figure it all out. I have always regarded his 50m goal in the last quarter of the '09 grand final as the most important goal of the game (yes, more than Chappy's) and his second half in the '11 grand final virtually won us the game. I was so proud to see him transform from a league wide whipping boy (a la Jack Watts) into the dominant AA player we all knew he would become. Most people think our 2014 chances hinge on his fitness - that's how important he has become.

Caddy - He tore us up once when he played for GC and I used to rate him. I was jealous when it looked like he was Essendon bound at the end of '11 and was thrilled when we nabbed him a year later. Couldn't believe some were writing him off based on a couple of games last year - he's younger and less experienced than our 'kids' (Duncan, Bundy, Mots)! If we'd won the prelim I would have called his sub performance the reason. Has all the tools to become a multiple AA, B&F winning player and has definitely eased the pain of losing Gaz. He's a nice kid to boot.

Christensen - My first memory of Bundy was meeting him at the 2011 family day when he was yet to play a senior game. Barely a single supporter knew who he was and when I spoke to him and called him Allen, his face lit up that someone recognised him. He had an immediate impact from day one and his mark in the '11 grand final is one of my favourite plays from any of our three flags. He has that rare combination of being hard and courageous plus quick and creative.

Taylor - Mr Reliable. I always feel safe with the ball in his area. His '08 grand final was underrated because we lost and he almost deserved the Norm Smith in '09. He rarely plays a poor game and is the last player I'd expect to get into trouble off the field.

Selwood - Nothing I can say that others haven't. He's pretty much the complete player and a wonderful ambassador for the club. I admit I had slight reservations about making him captain at such a young age but he gets better with each season. Even if something terrible happened and he never played again (knock on wood), he'd go down as one of our best players of the golden era.

**** forgot Mackie. Love him, he's just good to watch even if he's occasionally lazy. Last year was amazing.

My top 15. Excluding Joel Selwood who should be everybody's #1.

1.Dawson Simpson. Convinced that if he is fit and healthy, we are in for a great midfield. Always liked the gentle giant, and at 206 odd cm. deserves top billing.
2.Tom Hawkins. Again, if fit and firing, our forward line is super potent. And I love F-S's that work out.
3.Travis Varcoe. With Wojo gone, and Motlop a late starter, TV is my excitement machine, and I think this will be his best year ever.
4.Harry Taylor. Loved him from the moment his pigeon toed gait entered SS. Super mark and very polished
5.Andrew Mackie. Mr versatile. I still see him ending up forward and being very potent, but wherever he is is great value.
6.Tom Lonergan. Been to hell and came back to win VFL & AFL flags.
7.Cameron Guthrie. Liked him in TAC days, and he is not letting us down, classy and dependable.
8.Mitch Brown. Another maligned player that I really feel has something that will set him apart this year. I hope.
9.George Burbury. Sad that his start is deferred this year. Will be a revelation.
10. Mark Blicavs. What a story so far. Looking forward to the next chapter.
11.Matty Stokes. Like Partridge et al, thought he was a goner, but he has really proved many of us wrong. I liked him pre 2007 as well.
12.Steve Motlop. Genuine excitement machine
13.Alan Christensen. Worried about his injury rate, but he is a bona fide gun at his best.
14. Taylor Hunt. Don't usually rate players with 2 surnames, but really like this one, should be best 22 easily.
15. Jordan Murdoch. Will be a very exciting prospect this year.

Boris, Bartel , Kelly & SJ need no nominations, they are superb Geelong players, nearing the end.

I like (not in order) SJ, Selwood, Enright, Bartel, Kelly, Taylor, Menzel, Mackie, Hawkins, Lonergan, Duncan, Christensen, Stokes, Motlop.
I might come to like some of the others when they do something.

Bartel - Legend of the club. Still think he has much more to give. Overhead marking is brilliant.
Mackie - Had a great season last year. So good on intercept marks. Always feel safe when he's got the ball.
Varcoe - If he can regain form he's one of the most exciting players to watch. Can never get over that Buddy tackle
McCarthy - Hard to break into the team. But promising player. Great defensive pressure.
Taylor - Rarely gets beaten. Enough said. So glad he stayed a cat.
Kelly - Best tackler. Intimidating player
Menzel - Please god, let him play
Lonergan - To overcome an injury like that and transform his game into an elite defender is pretty inspiring.
Selwood - Shouldn't even have to explain. Courageous, tough, skilled.
Simpson - Has overcome a heap of injuries and finally looks the goods.
McIntosh - Great player at his best. Excited to see him after 2 years off.
Hunt - Gun. One of my favourite players. A little under-rated in my opinion. Needs to regain form though.
Johnson - Makes you scream in joy and cringe in some decisions. Gotta love him.
Murdoch - Another player who has the potential to be something special. Without singing his praises, I think he will get there soon.
Duncan - Just on the fringe of become an elite midfielder of the competition.
Caddy - Similar to Duncan. Such a hardnut. One of my favourite players.
Hawkins - Beast of a man. Love to see him come back to his 2011/12 form.
Stokes - Turned his career around to one of our best. Great commitment.
Christensen - Another on the fringe of becoming an elite mid. Goes hard at the ball.
Guthrie - Absolute gun. So composed and will be one of our best for years to come.
Vardy - So much potential. Devastating injury setback when was on the fringe of cementing a spot.
Burbury - Courageous and tough. Hard to break into the team but think he can.
Motlop - Absolute star. Unique the way he plays and love seeing him burn players.
GHS - Must admit am not his greatest fan. But from the last couple of games I think he will get there over time. Great leader
Jansen - Very impressed with first game. Great size.
Kersten - Must admit I am very biased with Shane. I think I would probably be his biggest fan on this board (along with dazbroncos ), but I have so much faith in this kid. Quick, leads up well, accurate, massive kick. Just oozes style. I try not to get too carried away as he hasn't played a senior game yet but he will be a star. Needs to get over these damn niggling injuries so he can get in the side!
Thurlow - So composed for 4 games. See big things to come from him.
Enright - One of, if not the best, half-back in the history of the game.
Blicavs - Gee I love the kid, hope he can find his spot in the team. Don't know where he will end up, but amazing athletic ability. Thought he stood up well last year getting thrown into the deep end with such limited footy experience.
