Just looking at the club's Wikipedia page and noticed a 2nd verse to the theme song.

So! Stand up and fight, remember our tradition
Stand up and fight, it’s always our ambition
Throughout the game to fight with all our might
Because we’re the mighty blue and white
And when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
Stand up and fight like hell

Am I the only one not to have heard of this? Is there a recording of this 2nd verse being sung?
 
This was included in the song during the early 2000s at games when they released a modern version.

The song also included a very long introduction with "We are Geelong" repeated slowly, from a whisper and getting louder. Not that good to sing to when you have just won a game.

The extra lyric completely passed me by. :confused: Thought it might have been a long lost original. When all the while we have been hearing an excerpt.

I do have a vague recollection of hearing some dodgy tune floating around about that time. But to my credit I've almost successfully wiped away the early 2000's from my memory.:thumbsu:

Wasn't played that often between 2001 and 2003, that's for sure.

The only version I dislike more is that disjointed, pompy tripe they played when we ran out on Grand Final day in 2008. Knew things weren't right then.

That was terrible. May have even dislodged 'Cat Attack' from the top of the worst Geelong song list.

...Maybe not.

My daughter and I always sing the 2nd verse at games when they do the instrumental bit. Been singing it a lot the last 3 years or so!!!

+1 on this! Cringed when they played that "modern" version of the song on GF day '08...thought it was an omen for the day! This version sounds a so "K-Rockish" to me as the guy who sings it has done other work for them if my memory is correct.

So glad they reverted to the original tune for '09...had a feeling the day would go well after that!

I had visions of it being part of the original tune. Not some junky recent add-on.

I think I'll stick to the original.

...I'll be listening out for you and your daughter though!;):)

There was a small number of us singing the full song on the train home after the Grand Final. It was good fun, the last line is always full of passion - not dissimilar to the "Yellow and Black!" in the Richmond song.

The song has been borrowed from by the club itself. Our slogan earlier this decade when days were dark was "Stand Up and Fight". Think I have the fridge magnet somewhere. Haha.

And our banner for the 2007 Grand Final pulled some lines, like "Remember our tradition" and "Always our ambition". Can't remember exactly right now though. I was thrilled to see that banner, thought it was an awesome sentiment. Good times! :thumbsu:

I remember it being at the back of the "Carn the Cats" Footy Kids book a while prior to that, and all the young kids would sing it while the rest of us had no idea what the hell they were on about.

I often sing it following a few beers at KP when the instrumental verse is played between the two normal verses. Doing this at the 'G following the Grand Final with the countless repeats they kept playing is a major reason for me still having a sore throat three weeks later :thumbsu:

I still have a copy of it somewhere. Was bloody awful. :thumbsd:

From memory I thought some of the boys at the club were behind it?

Still recall some of the crap songs they played at the Cattery in the 80s and early 90s, including a Cat Magic song...'that ol' Cat magic has me in it's spell'. Standing in the outer, lots of embarassment in front of opposition supporters... they seemed to have lots of those songs that they would reel out after a win...OMG...cat attack, go cats.....ERK!!

It was on a CD as well. Because I was 10 or so and listened to it a fair bit (don't ask me why) I often have that version stuck in my head rather than the normal one :thumbsd:
