I am in London and just sent this to a mate back in Australia. I am interested in others' thoughts though. I know some will crucify me but think about it......

Mate,

I need to talk to someone about the latest debarcle. It's making me feel sick. I have been thinking about how the pies should take the situation forward though. I really think they can turn this into a positive. Here is how...

1/ Trade Didak – A no brainer I know, but it has to happen. They should demand 2 first round picks but be happy with a op 10 and an early second round pick. We are in the box seat. He is contracted for 2 so no one has us over a barrel. Have a dutch auction and give him to the highest bidder. I know we've loved him for a long time but has he really delivered on potential? Not professional and not as fit as he could be. Has had a good year though so market value is high. Remember too, he has done a knee.

2/ Heater – I love him, you love him, he's a prime moving mid of the future and future AA probably but I love him a lot less since monday. If clubs make inquiries I would listen to them for sure, but he's trade value is probably more than didak because he hasn't peaked yet. If we were offered a first round pick and player or 1st and 2nd rounder I would seriously consider it.

3/ Rhyce – If anyone's interested, I'd take a second rounder in a heart beat. Has been good this year but he's been around for a long time and how many times has he won a game for us?

4/ Ben Johnson – I know he wasn't punished for his involvement so can't have been too deep, but good opportunity to delist him with minimal backlash from supporters. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed and can only be a bad influence on the young blokes. form has been average at best this year anyway.

This is a huge opportunity to clear out the rat pack but more importantly, re-build the list and the culture. If you shipped off Didak and Heater OR Didak and Rhyce you might be a big chance to pick up 3, even 4 picks in the top 30 (like Hawthorn did a few years ago). Add our own two picks in the top 30 and you're looking at 5-6 picks in the top 30 . It's a good draft too apparently. This could set our club up for the next 10 years. With picks like that, Hine can draft a new midfield in one swoop. He could go for a ruckman, 4 genuine midfielders and a key back (not in that order). Then you've still got later picks to play with.

At the same time you get rid of all of these party boys and bring in some more talented youth to add to:

T Cloke
Swan
Pendle
thomas
Brown
Dawes
Reid
Clarke
Stanley
Wellingham
Reid
Rusling
Wood
O'Brien
Dyas
Barham
McCarthy
Cook
Isles
Anthony
McCaffer
Scott Reed

I would hate to see Heater in another jumper but I honestly think this is a golden opportuity to turn this into a positive and finally build a winning unit. There would be some short term pain though with Didak and Heater out of the equation.

What do reckon mate?

the comment about heath shaw, "i love him, but my opinion of him right now is much lower" sums it up for me.

our opinion of them now is bad, however give shaw a chance to redeem himself. Yes i agree that we should always listen to any trade options that are brought up, but if the boy is committed he must stay a Pie.

As for didak, would tear my heart apart seeing him in different colours, but it is apparent he is not the best influence around others. everyone who is saying "his only crime was sitting in a car" is very closeminded. Given that he has had previous chances, does he deserve one more?? yes, only because he is our best player. But if we were to get good value for him than it would make sense to trade him. It would break my heart but sometimes these decisions need to be made. no individual is bigger than the, bla bla bla we've heard it a million times

As for Rhyce and johnson... ah i dont give a **** to be honest. dissappointed in the lot of them to tell you the truth. which goes back to my main point. we're dissapointed NOW but what about next year when they get back to being the best? kinda like what burnsy was getting at

they did the right thing in suspending them for the year i guess and then re-evaluating at the end of the year.

Ok, cheers

Bigness & Godfrey.

IMO.

The club has handled the situation perfectly with regards to suspending both players for the rest of the year. Sends a really strong message to the rest of the squad.

Now; put both (Dids & Heath) players up for trade at the end of the year purely to see what we could get. Do this with no real intention of trading them, unless the carrot or carrots offered are of exceptional value. Again sending a really strong message to the rest of the squad.

I want both Dids and Heath to remain at the Pies. Both my sons have their numbers on their backs. It would kill me to see either of them in different colors.

GO PIES!

I’ll tell you what’s churning my guts!

I think we will trade Didak for under the odds and keep guys like Maxwell. That’s why we won’t a flag in the near future. This may well galvanise the list and we will throw all sorts of clichés around next year when we get to where we already should be this year but we won’t have a good enough list to win a flag for at least 3 years and I find it impossible to believe we will in any time soon even beyond that.

If we have a drinking culture that needs to be addressed then sacking one drinker won’t do it and making the worst offender accountable and ignoring the people running the club won’t change the culture either.

Trading Didak to Port will be as messy as all hell. We will end up with a player about 60% of Didak’s ability.

Who cares what anyone thinks about them. You and everyone else will kiss their arses all night long if they win a flag. Christ Martin Pike was sacked by 3 clubs and has 4 premiership medals. Mal Michael burnt 2 clubs and has 3 premiership medals. We aren’t running a child care centre we are running a football club and we have less accountability in the board room and administration than we have in the playing list anyway. Setting an example with Didak and/or Shaw will achieve very little without addressing culture from the top down.

Let's just assemble the best playing list in the competition and win premierships.

I am actually with you on this one Mark. Unless we get something of appropriate value in return there is no point trading him. They need to work on producing the best list. If we throw him out there as must be traded we will get screwed.

I am all for a clean out to get a JB or Kerr E.g Didak,Johnson,Rhyce & an early pick. At least we can make a negative into a positive.
