Bigness
Senior List
I am in London and just sent this to a mate back in Australia. I am interested in others' thoughts though. I know some will crucify me but think about it......
Mate,
I need to talk to someone about the latest debarcle. It's making me feel sick. I have been thinking about how the pies should take the situation forward though. I really think they can turn this into a positive. Here is how...
1/ Trade Didak – A no brainer I know, but it has to happen. They should demand 2 first round picks but be happy with a op 10 and an early second round pick. We are in the box seat. He is contracted for 2 so no one has us over a barrel. Have a dutch auction and give him to the highest bidder. I know we've loved him for a long time but has he really delivered on potential? Not professional and not as fit as he could be. Has had a good year though so market value is high. Remember too, he has done a knee.
2/ Heater – I love him, you love him, he's a prime moving mid of the future and future AA probably but I love him a lot less since monday. If clubs make inquiries I would listen to them for sure, but he's trade value is probably more than didak because he hasn't peaked yet. If we were offered a first round pick and player or 1st and 2nd rounder I would seriously consider it.
3/ Rhyce – If anyone's interested, I'd take a second rounder in a heart beat. Has been good this year but he's been around for a long time and how many times has he won a game for us?
4/ Ben Johnson – I know he wasn't punished for his involvement so can't have been too deep, but good opportunity to delist him with minimal backlash from supporters. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed and can only be a bad influence on the young blokes. form has been average at best this year anyway.
This is a huge opportunity to clear out the rat pack but more importantly, re-build the list and the culture. If you shipped off Didak and Heater OR Didak and Rhyce you might be a big chance to pick up 3, even 4 picks in the top 30 (like Hawthorn did a few years ago). Add our own two picks in the top 30 and you're looking at 5-6 picks in the top 30 . It's a good draft too apparently. This could set our club up for the next 10 years. With picks like that, Hine can draft a new midfield in one swoop. He could go for a ruckman, 4 genuine midfielders and a key back (not in that order). Then you've still got later picks to play with.
At the same time you get rid of all of these party boys and bring in some more talented youth to add to:
T Cloke
Swan
Pendle
thomas
Brown
Dawes
Reid
Clarke
Stanley
Wellingham
Reid
Rusling
Wood
O'Brien
Dyas
Barham
McCarthy
Cook
Isles
Anthony
McCaffer
Scott Reed
I would hate to see Heater in another jumper but I honestly think this is a golden opportuity to turn this into a positive and finally build a winning unit. There would be some short term pain though with Didak and Heater out of the equation.
What do reckon mate?
