Things I liked about tonight

Blast away at the team as you will but a couple of things happened that got me excited.

The Players only meeting before the game, Jolly seeming to lead the huddle before the game, Harrys' old fashioned aggression, protecting a team mate, and some of the run and carry. In some cases it looked actually modern, almost Cat like, running past the ball carrier looking for a possession. Our defensive pressure was terrific for 75% of the game.

I know its easy to punt the lot of them, but we're not going to find a Lockett or Dunstall between now and the GF. A couple of blokes let themselves down badly, and if the shots on goal actually applied scoreboard pressure the result would have been different, the Saints looked baffled at points in the first1/2.

Remember the Cats were down by 60?? against West Coast 2006 and it initiated a Team heart to heart and look where it went for them from there.

Chin up guys, it very disappointing but is round 3.

Also, thought Ball was good, considering the publicity.

Harry O still killing it. Thought our defence held up well, and the pressure was great, just went downhill soon as we went forward.

Yeah agree...harry was good again, wellingham was good. From what I could see of thomas he seemed to be trying his best as always. Ball went up a level.

It was a shame our forwardline went missing, wish Cloke player closer to home, I did think he improved on his first 2 weeks. Only slightly. But need him actually up forward to give our guys a target. I would like to see him lead in the 50, not down in the back half.

But still very disappointed with us not taking opportunities and many players going missing when the game was there to be won.

Wellingham, kid is going to be a star. Sidebottom, likewise.

Cloke at stages, we know his goal kicking is rubbish, but man-handled Dawson early. Needs to keep that up.

Didak dealt with the tag quite well, good to see us blocking for him finally.

I second the praise for Sidebottom and Wellingham. Wellingham was pretty impressive in the packs. O'Brien was also great when he wasn't losing his shit.

Sidebottom, Wellingham, Harry, Didak, Thomas and Ball were all good or decent at stages. Presti was doing a great job on Riewoldt before he went down.

Jolly was better this week and I thought he got a couple of rough decisions in the ruck contests. I mean, two players are holding each other and the umpire plucks out a free to one of them?

Early intensity was good.

Wellers, Sidey, Thomas, and physical endeavour of the team. Then there was O'Brien & Presti beating their forwards senseless. Except we lost, because of their mid strength. Jolly and Ball were more out there this week, but the gap between them and our development players is still evident, and that we had to use offensive players to negate out their stars, thus losing our own drive.

Negatives: what's with Frase and O'Bewan? probably Locks has gone past 'small back' duties - disposal was most unLocks-like.

Who was taking Hayes? Tooves seemed to be everywhere but also a bit all over the place. If he had the pre-dom Hayes job then congrats, if not then not sure what he was up to.

For Hawthorn, with our small forwards' quietness and inaccuracy tonight, perhaps we stick Jack or Dawes back up front. Happy with Cloke's progress.

Pathetic tonight, kick 4 goals in a game of footy, a joke. No positives for me, only showed how far we are actually behind the good sides in the comp. Well l guess we only beat the wooden spoon favourites by a point.
