MAYBE.... just maybe clubs enter a team into the thirds Comp when they have significant amount of players . EHSFC held back until we had numbers & who were paid up (had made some commitment) this meant our season in the thirds comp didn't start til round 5 but was well worth it. Yeah we still had tough games, starting BEFORE u19s at 8am didn't help but we succeeded/held firm as a club. If you don't have 80/90+ how can you have a thirds ???

SFL needs to change its format obviously but clubs need to make better decisions inhouse. Long term decisions & tough decisions

I like the two tier option, powerful clubs like Clayton Dingley cerberus shouldn't be playing Div 3 clubs, they'll destroy the whole concept by 200/300 wins

Keep the discussion going lads!! 2016 isn't far away

Also, which teams will have a thirds ?

Clubs do get fined for a forfeit AFAIK.

Incorrect. Clubs weren't getting fined until halfway through this year, I HIGHLY DOUBT I HIGHLY DOUBT the SFL even did, given the clubs they were fine'n probably arnt financial anyways ???

Surely they will have to start looking at a fixture soon for clubs to plan around and you would think clubs have an idea if they will have a thirds team or not at this point

Looks like there is going to be plenty of thirds teams this year, so lets home they get the structure right. Heard a few clubs have suggested on having two divisions with a promotion and relegation system; which would be based on ability and not what division their senior team is in. Seems like a no brainer as would give a more even competition and fix all the issues of forfeits experienced last year

So this year would determine the teams skill or would there be organized practice matches do you think?

Fixtures for Under 19s and Thirds will be released by WEDNESDAY MARCH 30.

Note – The Thirds competition structure has been a discussion point over the off season. Based off initial team indications, one competition looks highly likely for 2016. This will be confirmed following final teams submissions.

exactly the correspondence i've read

i'm hearing 1 div this yr - announced tonight i think

I really hope this isn't the case. The league really needs to fix their blunder from last year and looks like they aren't going to learn. They will emphasize 3 & 4 double header games which will continue the same issues from last season (split leagues based on divisions). Players numbers will drop off with thumping losses and the forfeits will continue. I just dont see why the league won't listen to the clubs and make the whole comp alot more even by having two split divisions with a promotion/relegation system.

Confirmed 11 team one division comp comprising 16 games & 2 byes starting April 16th. Skye & Keysie may start a week earlier as their Seniors/Reserves play then.

Teams will play teams from their group more often.

Group A
Cerberus, Dingley, Skye

Group B
Endeavour Hills, Keysborough, Sandown, South Yarra

Group C
Black Rock, Cheltenham,Dandenong,
Mt Waverley

Season ran along div 2 yeah?

Fixture up for the first couple of rounds on the website (11 teams).......by the looks of it a couple of teams didn't go again this year from out the South East- Doveton Eagles and Hallam. With Lyndhurst Lightening coming in surely that has hurt clubs numbers. I wonder how Dandenong will go? Heard that they were struggling for numbers yet they have a thirds?

appreciate you putting that up but god, 80% of those games are david vs golliath. Sort of ridiculous.

There are always going to be stronger teams who have to play the weaker ones. It's not purely up to the SFL to put out a fixture that appeases the cries that a Div 1 thirds team can thump another Div 1 thirds team. Nothing stopping teams working harder on the track and improving like South Yarra, Keysie did (and even Dandy at seasons end).

They didn't have enough teams to run dual competitions this year. Half the complaints from last year were that both competitions were lopsided because the likes of Dingley, Skye, Cerberus all had huge wins on a regular occurance - but now those teams all meet each other this season.

we've (SY) cerebus first up who are one of those monster teams...i play 2's so it doesn't really matter to me but it might have been good for the teams 'around each other' to maybe play each other first up and possibly the first few rounds so everyone has a chance to get a win or 2 early and make it interesting at least initially

that being said i;m sure making the thirds draw is a nightmare as it is with teams from all 3 div's etc

I get what you are saying - but it's not up to the SFL to ensure teams are competative, it's up to the clubs.
They (SFL) can't sit there "Oh this club can beat these guys so it'd be nice for them to have a win early on" etc.
South Yarra thirds went from a team that got SMAISHED in 2014 and all credit to them they were a competative, strong team that made finals in 2015. When you have feel good stories like that - there's no real way of telling how teams will fare come R1, because no one would have expected that.

there are a few clubs that were looking to hold off for a few more weeks to decide if they wanted thirds and were given a firm no by the league this year.

are there any 3rds sides out there short on numbers? we have a lot of players missing out each week at springy districts and would be good if they could help out some of the sides who are low on numbers. if any clubs are keen to have a chat pls give me a call on 0423 348 305.

Any sides not putting a 3rds team in 2017 I've heard Dingley might not be going ahead this season? Would be a massive loss to the comp if it's true

Any thirds players out there?

Wondering if anyone knows what's happening points wise, for the teams that had a bye before Lyndhurst joined?

Surely the league wont allow teams to play one less game for points in a total points comp?

Surely
