Yeah i would not be surprised if GWS and Freo have already or are in the middle of sorting out a deal for Moller. They are desperate for a ruckman as they didn't take one in last years draft after everyone thought they would take Longer. Moller is one of the top prospects in the country for a ruckman and he is from NSW. If this was the case i could see us getting either a first round draft pick or a pick in the mini draft. Either way i think we would win out of this, as much as i would be dissapointed in losing Moller. I would really like to get Mason Shaw, or in the mini draft Hogan. Dreaming????

Just curious, but are you basing this on anything? I think it is way to early to speculate on his draft potential. He hasn't done anything to date to stake that claim. It will be interesting to see how he goes in the under 18 champs this year.

See below that Knightmare ranks Craig Moller as a 10 top pick if you take out O'Meara and Couch and maybe Daniher or Viney depending where Demons and Bombers end up.

My trade would be: Freo give up our first draft pick, Moller, Griffin plus his compo pick, McPhee plus his compo pick and gain a pick in the mini draft and 2rd round pick.

Knightmare's 2012 Mock Draft

4. Jack Viney (Melb – F/S)
5. Joe Daniher (Ess – F/S)
6. Brad Crouch (Adel – 17 Y/O)
7. Mason Shaw
8. Jimmy Toumpas
9. Nick Vlastuin
10. Brodie Grundy
------------------Potentially high level AFL players--------------------
11. James Stewart (Coll – F/S)
12. Craig Moller (Freo – NSW/ACT)
13. Troy Menzel
14. Ben Kennedy
15. Liam Mcbean
16. Jonothon O’Rourke
17. Josh Simpson
18. Sam Mayes
19. Dayle Garlett
20. Rory Atkins
21. Oliver Wines
22. Matthew Haynes
23. Tanner Smith
24. Jed Anderson (GWS – likely NT Zone)
25. Aaron Luccon
26. Jason Pongracic
27. Adam Carter
28. Christopher Yarran
29. Myles Bolger
30. Lachie Hunter (WBD – F/S)
31. Anthony Bonaddio
32. Matthew McDonough
33. Emmanuel Irra
34. Corey Chalmers
35. Shannon Taylor

If he's training and keen on staying at GWS then their probably in his ear. Play a bit under his ability and we might trade him for peanuts due to his fall from grace.

He'll probably get KO'd out the front of a nightclub in September to seal the deal.

McPhee's on the last year of his contract. If he had to leave the state to keep playing footy, at his age he'd probably retire and concentrate on the family business. I reckon we'll be giving him another year at the end of this year anyway. Griffin could go if he doesn't want to wait for Sandi to retire, but he seems injury prone and while he played some good games, I think his currency's gone down. I reckon we'd be keen to keep him, but he might look abroad if he gets toey.

Didn't realize Moeller, apparently the best ruck of 2013 up for trade? We investing in him three years ago and now we have the right to draft him. Simple, Pick 90+ Fremantle Dockers- Moeller.

I don't quite understand this. If his currency goes down, and other clubs don't rate him, why would his odds of getting a game be better?

Just in terms of trade bait. We've got the luxury of a couple of years at least of Sandi playing well, so if Griff stays he can sort his hip and whatever other problems out and aim to be our number one ruck in future. If his body remains iffy for the rest of the year, but he wants to be traded at the end of it, he/we will have less currency to play with. If he overcomes his injuries soon and plays well in the WAFL and in the seniors when he gets the chance then other clubs will be much more interested as he'd have the expectation of performing immediately at the new club.

If I'm reading you right it sounds like we would be getting screwed.

Let's assume worst case scenario and McPhee and Griffin would both be worth only a 3rd round compo, the deal would be:

Freo gain:
- mini draft pick
- 2nd rounder

Freo lose:
- 1st rounder
- 3rd rounder
- 3rd rounder
- Moller
- Griffin
- McPhee

That mini draft pick player would want to be bloody good - especially since Moller is being touted as a 1st round pick as well.

How'd he go, Harry?

As a draft prospect for this year he looked great.

We had Jaeger O'meara training with us last year and he was snapped up very quick by GWS and then traded to the Gold Coast Suns.

I suppose there's nothing we can do to keep these players hidden from other team's scouts.

These are all if buts and maybes.

Id be keen on Mason Shaw or Moller.
If i could choose between the two of them i would go Shaw, simply because our need for a big power forward is much greater than that of our need for a developing ruckman. we have Clarke there who is coming along nicely. Not saying i would not want Moller because he seems a great talent. Who would you guys pick if you had the coice.

I was basing my statement about Moller being one of the best ruck prospects in this draft on the information that Knightmare gives and also the fact that he has him basically a top ten pick in his mock draft, although being a long way out from draft and lots can change.

I agree, this definitely sounds like we are being shafted in that trade - if it was even possible.

1) How would we trade Moller? If he doesn't choose to be drafted by us then he must enter the draft and is treated under normal draft rules.

2) How would we get a compensation pick for Griffin or McPhee if we traded them? They have to leave before we would get a compensation pick in return and we already got our compensation pick with Palmer leaving.

Yeah that's crazy talk. I would see it more likely as mini draft pick or pick in the top 6 in the regular draft for Moller. Perhaps this is the long term answer our recruiters have had in mind when they have overlooked highly touted KKP prospects like Darling, Kersten etc. We would want to sign some good talls this year however we do it.

This is based purely on what Knightmare has posted.

If he's rated as a top 10 - 20 pick it is really quite simple - trade him for a pick in the mini draft OR trade up to ensure we get Shaw. Nothing more nothing less. He's going to be a very valuble commodity for GWS as he is a NSW player and will not want to leave, if they keep getting smashed and start losing players then that will be a massive factor in them wanting him.

If a deal has started on the quiet between us and them, I would put my money on it being a pick in the mini draft - simply because they have to do the deal, so its no real skin off their noses. (this is all based on Knightmares rating, which I am not so sure about)

If that happened I would be very happy indeedelydoodley

I wish Moller wasn't spoken of as a top 10 pick, or even a first rounder. He is a long way off. You could easily the make the argument that the Pavlich/McPharlin/Sandilands 'premiership window' will be over by the time he is pushing to become a fringe player. Yes, we'd be getting him with a late pick. But I've been saying for a while, that people need to temper their expectations of the kid.

As for Thomas Head, good to hear he is over and training with the club. Is a very nice size, enough to work with for the rookie list you'd think.

Chris, do you think Knightmare may be a little off chops to claim he is top 20?
I dont watch much junior footy, but from what I read on training/game reports he doesnt seem like he would be top 50? - He hasnt played in many top grades.. Are we all dreaming (sounds familiar) or is it realistic?

Well I posted my own list last night on the Drafts and Trading board, and even with my massive Fremantle bias, I had Moller at #39. Which I still think is quite early.

You can't argue with what he has produced so far in his career, it's all been top notch. But he is a Division 2 player after all. How he goes with the GWS reserves will be interesting. They have a young ruckman called Tom Downie who they picked up at #56 last year, how Moller goes in comparison to him might be a good yard stick.

They wouldn't be techinally trades, but deals. So we agree not to pick up Moller based on certain agreements. I believe GWS would then be able to pick him up under their NSW zone concessions. Because we lost Palmer we must agree to any further uncontracted players signing with GWS. We only agree to let the player (McPhee/Griffin) go based on a prearanged agreement, but because we still lost a player the AFL still give us a compensation pick (see how Brisbane traded Brennan).

The actual trade would look something like compensation pick and pick 20 for a mini draft pick 1

Chris if we were ale to get a pick in the mini draft who do you see as our best option? would it be Hogan? he seems more of a third tall in the Darling mould than a kpf thought? who else would we be targeting? i have got a sneaking suspicion that we will be involved in some shape or form in this mini draft

I think everyone needs to remember (or know) that Knightmare's 2011 list that he updated just hours before the 2011 draft was very different from the actual placings of the draft.
This list that you're all going off has been done 7 months in advance of this year's draft and won't be anything like what actually happens and will be changed by him many, many times between now and then.

In reality, Moller could be rated anywhere between 10 and rookie list in this years draft, no one on bigfooty would have a clue and even the full time professional recruiters wouldn't yet have his position fine tuned down to within 15 or 20 spots either way.

I said before that you we need to wait and see how he goes in the under 18 champs and throughout the year. He is still very skinny but training with GWS could help boost his prospects and form. Although the BF mock drafts are a good read they don't have enough credibility. I reckon there was a chance that the club was trying to trade the rights to Moller during last years mini-draft but his stocks probably weren't high enough. Perhaps the reason Moller is training with GWS his some sort of trial to see what his stocks are for the mini-draft this year.
