Griffen was injured in about round 12 last year.

Thomas' first 12 round of this year are ahead of what Griffen did last year before he was injured.

So going off where they both were at the same points in time, Thomas is ahead.

Who knows whether he'll produce a fourth year to the quality of Griffen, we have to wait and see.

Griffen easy, Thomas has it all at his feet, could be anything, the stuff he does is amazing, he now needs to go to bucks and say ok, how I get my body right so I can be in every second of every game.

Its going to be interesting watching him over the next 2 years. Thomas will take longer to really shine, because he needs the bigger body and endurance to use his skill set effectively.

But the real question is who would i rather in my side right now? Griffen

I see Thomas as potentially a better player in years to come, as Griffen's learning curve seems to have plateaued slightly recently. That being said, he is white hot at the moment, he does the hards stuff and has talent to burn, though his kicking does let him down sometimes. I wouldn't swap the players in a heartbeat, but I would love the match winning qualities of Thomas running towards goal.

In regards to Ray and Pendlebury, I'd swap without a thought... that may be a bit harsh on Ray though, had a long stint on the sidelines and before that was one of the better Doggies players.

Good luck for the weekend:thumbsu:

Just a thought, I am a big admirer of Dale Thomas and I was wondering if Collingwood supporters rate him as below, as high or higher than Ryan Griffen?

Best of luck on Sunday lads and ladettes.

Below. Griffen is better.

Thomas has the potential to be better, but only time will tell how that pans out.

Griffen was an absolute gun in his first season.
I watch a lot of doggies games and the kid impressed me immensely.
I don't think he had such a good season last year (probably coz of injury) and this year he has not been all that consistent going on Champion Data.
I had him in Super Coach last year and bought him this year
However, I am not happy with his performances :(
Not getting me enough points.
I rate him very highly and would not be buying him in SC if I did not.
Dale Thomas could be great, it depends on him. So could Griffen!
Gary Abblett was a very good footballer until last year.
He has stepped up after being given a challenge.
I think that both of the players being compared have natural ability to step up and become great players. They are currently very good players like Abblett was a couple of years ago.
I don't think that Griffen will have a good game against Collingwood this week because of the corky he copped last week.

Just a reminder that Thomas also does the tough stuff.

I understand that Dales game is based around him being able to beat his opponent but lately i have just been noticing that he has been beating his opponent but then trying to get passed to other players after doing that. I ust feel as though he wants to thrill the crowd instead of do the team thing and play the percentages

I like most people get very excited when he takes the game on but i just dont think he should be trying to beat three or four opponents in the same play. he shold take players on and then pass it off once he has the oppurtunity to instead of getting caught with the ball like against west coast.

A great example of when he took a player on and then passed it off was in the geelong game when he trapped the ball got up balked a player and then drilled the ball onto a collingwood players chest

Instead of taking on another coupl of players and getting caught

Not sure if anyone else has noticed it, but Griffen moves/looks more like a young Buckley than anyone else I've seen. Obviously he's a long way from Buckley's level, but I still love watching him play.

He obviously has a long way to go and may well never get to that level but the way he moves and shrugs tackles also remonds me of Buckley

And as far as trolls go, this is a 6/10. Subtle and polite, but not terribly imaginative. Can I make a Pendlebury vs. Ray thread on the Dogs' board now? ;)

I don't think you would get many people to disagree that Pendlebury is streets ahead of Ray at the moment. Ray is starting to show some signs of improvement and his body has developed this last preseason but still miles off Pendlebury.

Thats interesting, because personally I would have them both neck and neck, maybe with Griff a touch in front.

Thomas has what you cant teach which is instinct and footy nous. With time I think he will be an absolute gun.

I also think this about Griffen but his disposal lets him down I think.

You are clearly either basing that on very few games you have watched him play or thinking of a different player as his disposal is normally spot on,long penetrating accurate kicks as well as running the lines breaking tackles are his thing.

I'd have Griffen in front at this stage, but then so he should be because he's been in the system longer. I rate Griffin, though he hasn't quite come on as quickly as I thought he would.

Remember that last year was a write off with injury, this is the first season where he has had a full preseason and not been injured...(touch wood)

Also the other thing to remember is thta they are different types of players with Thomas being a forward who can spend short bursts in the midfield as an outside runner. Griffin is more of a utility who can play back, mid or forward as he has a stronger body and plays as both an outside and inside midfielder.

You would have to say Griffen and I agree with a lot of the Collingwood guys who have said he is like a young Nathan Buckley. Thomas and Griffo are two different types of players though so hard to compare. I suppose if you had a draft of just those two blokes you would be taking Griffo. Thomas does the freakish stuff, Griffo is a bulldozer with a nitrous oxide tank.

So now the Doggies are going to start trolling our board?

If Pies supporters rate Dale higher then we will get hordes of Doggies come here to bag us.

FWIW, Griffen would be in front of him at the moment.

Both Great ofensive/creative sides. Griff better in his defensive game has had to matchup down back quite a bit.

Does this make me partof the horde ? I have always wanted to be in a horde.:)
