Speaking of Waters, I know for a fact he is very homesick.
That was said last year as well - could have orchestrated a trade home as part of the Stenglein deal if it were in fact true

I'm more than happy how well we did out of the Stenglein for Thommo and Gibson trade. Even if you ignore Gibson, Thommo for Stenglein is a huge win for us. An honest hard working tagger for a hard as nails, skilful future captain.

As Springchoke said, even if Gibson fails to deliver, we are light years ahead with Thompson for Stenglein. Contrary to Graham Cornes's warped view on this matter, Adelaide are big winners on this one.

Just on whether Waters is home-sick or not, it's far more likely for a young player to feel that way when he's not playing through injury - Waters has OP - and has a lot of time on his hands to think about his family back home.

While it's unlikely to come off, now is the time for a little tri-coloured dickie bird to whisper in his ear "Go home, young man, go home." ;) :D

did i head somebody say waters ??? :)

will you people every give up? :p

actually, he is home at the moment seeing a SA specialist for his groin. i can imagine he would be very homesick, it would be very hard for him especially after his pre- season form. luckily, you guys are good enough not to get a good PSD pick. that would have been a problem for us IMO.

there seems to be a consensus that we might be willing to trade a midfielder (kerr?) to snare a keyforward. this is based on the assumption that waters/butler will take up any slack. i suppose we could just keep kerr and trade waters, using the reward to get the key forward. worth consideration at least.

as people have mentioned, the positive for us is that port will be in on the bidding this time around. and going by their form, i think they might be in the market for a quality young midfielder. one would have to think a 1st round pick is the starter. it might come down to who has the lower pick out of the 2 SA clubs.

So do you are of the belief that Waters will return home sooner rather than later. Given Port have lost some quality midfielders in the past few years (& particularly some tough ones), I agree that they would be keen to pick up Waters too.

i dont have any reason or proof, but i get the feeling there is a reasonable chance for him to leave. the club will be keen to keep him but if he was desperate to leave then i dont think we would stand in his way. we dont really need his type desperatly. if we could use the 1st round from you guys combined with ours to get a tarrant or fevola then i think the club will do the deal. we would be a much much better side with fevola than with waters. we have a surplus for midfielders, its stupid having so much stock in one area of the ground.

oh and please dont take this as me saying i dont want beau. i love the bloke and want him to stay. but as i said, if that chance to snare a forward comes along then one of our midfielders will have to go. i think the club would rather trade waters than kerr because the chances are that beau will want to return home at some stage. and kerr has the runs on the board.

we could of put the hard ones on wcoast though and we didnt, cornesy had a valid point. That was the time to get a butler or waters as well as that first round pick. We have been screwed over in sooo many trade deals that this was like the wcarey trade for us, in that we had them where we wanted them and it was up to them to give us what they wanted.

That being said thomo is a better replacement and we won, but it is easy to overlook some of stengleins work as he plays in WA now and he aint as flashy as some. Its said that this is practically our only trade win in 15yrs, so they have some work to do.

would have been nice to kept 12 as well, cause there was a wood or bate or monfries all there then. Would have given us some more young very good talent to go with meeson. A ruck combo of wood and meson wouldn’t have been bad at all.

Thommo has been the best pick up for the AFC for a very longtime :)

he is our only good pick up. Thats why when Jimmy was telling his story in the paper, he named thommo as the best trade ever, even though he had played something like 3 or 4 games at that stage. The other one was bassett so that says alot.

if you managed to get butler/waters + first round pick then that would have been a monumental win for you guys.
