He is going pretty well, but is not yet top echelon of the team.

I certainly like the look of this guy , hard at it, runs in a straight line not caring whats in his way. Will give us some much needed hardness in the centre taking some of the pressure off of Rucciuto

Will turn out to be a more!! than handy acquisition to our side. There is a hell of alot of Upside to what we have seen so far i believe

I like the way he goes after the footy and he looks like he has a smart football mind. As long as he doesn't get injured he will be great!! All the Melbourne supporters I know over here agree with me and are sad to have lost him.

But what I have seen of Scotty and he stays sound he could be our next leader. He is what this club needs a real hard nut and gets the ball at all costs.

you would want to be impressed considering the price he cost. I would say he is close to the top echelon of the team, despite somelse saying he wasnt yet. He is the best of the 'youngsters', certainly ahead of reilly. Just below our four stars macca, roo, edwards and goodwin.

despite virtually no pre-season he has been most impressive in the limited game time that he has had:

- i even gave him 1 vote in the POTY (i thought that his hardness at the ball and at the man and his tackling have added more than real support for Ricciuto)

- he is only 8 months older than Reilly, 5 months younger than Stiffy, and same age as Kane Cornes - they're all different type of players but IMO all (barring injury) will be in the top echelon of the AFL in years to come

- barring injury, this would have to rank as one of the trade coups over the years

I think Maloney has been a better pick up. Considering the influence he has already had and the comments we have received from other clubs, especially geelong. However, Thompson sounds like he is doing well.

He looked the goods on the week end even though he did give the impression that he was still a week or 2 behind fitness wise.
Once he gets fit he'll be a great pickup for you lot.

upsides - not fully fit yet but showing absolute class in most of his disposals and his desire to hunt down the pill, plus that inate toughness he just seems to exert

downsides - the two kicks into the man on the mark, and his ability to mark when there is pressure from behind, (seems to want to mark on his chest a bit) but these could just be due to match fitness and I wait to see how he progresses.

All in all, very happy with our replacement

I must say those two kicks into the man in the mark had me going slighty crazy. Now that someone has mentioned he's younger than longcock and just older than Reilly I'm impressed. Plays like a veteran.

It is worth noting that Moloney (21yo, debut 2003, 26 games) has roughly two seasons of catching up to do on Thompson (22yo, debut 2001, 41 games) before any comparisons are made on their respective abilities and potential at present.

Well i don't think you can tell but i think they are about the same. Moloney had a cracker of aa game and then dropped off while thompson had a solid game then had a pretty good match thins week.

Both men are very young and have a decade of football ahead of them... anything could happen between now and 2015 in their respective careers.

Both will be very good players, that is plain to see, however I think it is rather early to unequivocally write Moloney off as inferior at present, especially as Thompson has roughly two (pre)seasons' headstart, regardless of recent injury concerns.
