Team Captain
My two cents from the weekend.
First of all, how great is it going to the footy on a sunny day and seeing the Eagles win in Melbourne!
attack on the ball was fantastic. We all know it was pre-season, but all you can ask for (at the Eagles), is young guys having a red hot go.
Judd looks the real deal, some players just give the impression they have class, and he is one of them.
Tuckey, well, he worked really hard (taking marks around half back in the third term), however, I'm not sure he'll make a key position player, I think maybe a flank, a lot like Donnely used to do, but if he gets a key defender, I'm just not sure.
Carroll, well, he is ****e. On numerous occasions, FEVOLA, was a good few paces in front of him, FEVOLA!! He doesn't read the play well at all, hence he is very re-active. And his effort in front of the Carlton members when he tried to take the team on and got caught, well, he just isn't up to it, bring in Glass or Gas.
I was THRILLED with the roles given to roo and Wirrpunda. They seemed to thrive playing further down the ground without the defensive responsibilites curtailing their attacking flair, bravo Woosha for realizing neither are backpockets (are you watching Ken Judge?). Taylor looked a little un-easy filling the vacated role, lack of height basically. It means he has to try to out-muscle and out-position his opponent, not his natural game.
Has anyone noticed that the T-Train ( can I claim that name for Wilo?) takes off for a lot of marks like he is fielding in slips? A few times he lept for the ball off both feet, seemed very awkward, but I love his presence on the forward line. Speaking of which, that problem is still there, the disposal into the forward line is sometimes, appauling, need to work on hitting targets, especially with floods such as Carlton's.
but having said all of that, i had the time of my life in pre-season!!
Now, on to to other matters at hand ......
I am a Melbourne Cheer Squad member, however, I don't sit with the cheer squad at games. I'm not sure why, but I just don't feel comfortable. I was brought up in the English soccer mould (not the Australian one!) which involves giving the opposition a bit of stick, being a bit vocal and some good humour (all in good taste of course). I'll try to attend banner making this season (work has stopped me in the past) but I am interested in hearing from people who fit my description who want to attend games in Melbourne.
