I, for one, thought it was going to be a tough, close game, with Freo's home ground advantage getting us over the line.

Sadly, 'twas not to be....

The boys will be better for it - Essendon were great, seemed to have about a half dozen more players on the ground that Freo did for most of the night.

Atmosphere was huge - good to see the supporters hanging in till the last minute, and hearing the FRREEEEOOOO chant, even though we lost was terrific.

A question - how good is James Hird?? Bloody champion.

Have you ever noticed that when things are going against you even the luck goes the other way? IE Hird's goal vs Woods. He beat Woods clearly but the kick was a shocker. Even Hirdy said it was a ridiculous goal.

Congratulations on a stellar season Freo. One of my best friends is a Freo fan so I was sorry to see we had to play eachother in the first week -- it was bittersweet for both of us!

You guys will be much better for it -- Essendon had something like 133 finals games to Freo's 32. Was always going to be tuff even with home ground adv.

Essendon's first finals appearence under Sheedy was a wipeout (81) then the same in 82 then a Grand Final blowout followed by b2b wins. What this means is that Freo are on the right track and things can get very exciting!!

Hird just knows what to do and he's bloody good at it.
For the bombers fans on TV, did you see the word he gave to Cupido after he gave away a 50?? They showed it quite a few times at the ground and I thought it was all class.

Definitely noticed this, the bounce of the ball went against Freo alot tonight, but all credit to Essendon. They were pretty damn good and would have beaten alot of other teams tonight.

As an Eagles man through and through I just wanted to say to all you true dockers fans out there, keep your chins up and forget about di*kheads like the dropkick that started this post. Freo have had a great year and will learn a hell of a lot from this game. Many teams lose their first final, especially against an experienced team with someone like Hird on fire!

Good luck for next year, (except in the derbies of course :D )!!
I have no doubt you'll be in the 8 again next year - with a bit of luck we can get at least 1 home final each at Subi in 2004 !!

Freo are guilty of stupid tactics last week which contributed enormously to their loss last night. I have watched Freo many times this season and they were a shadow of themselves, flat as a pancake.
If you go into a game the week before finals with tactics of making it a physical game then the outcome is likely to be injuries and bruised and battered bodies. Mentally it takes it's toll too.
With a young side it is even worse, although they will learn from it.
The key stat was 'tackles' If I remember correctly 57 to 26 and this in front of a parochial home crowd which would normally lift the home side to be the more committed.
Silly, but I suppose Freo got a home final and that meant extra revenue. But if WCE had hosted a final and played like that I would have been spewing, not the way you want to see your team end the season.

Exactly. Keep the stirring to the main AFL board, that's about all it is for.

We0 were a bit worried about getting out of the place alive, the supporters around us went feral, one got dragged out by the cops for attacking an old man & the others wanted to join in, fortunately though, they were some that left early, PHEW. :eek:

Well done to the Dockers, sorry that you get one certain tosspot over here spouting off, but there's always a few in any supporter group.

Full credit to your season, and once some of those young bodies harden up you'll be thereabouts, the old heads just did stirling service for us last night. Bell and Haselby were damaging, but I just felt there weren't enough helpers, and our backline was on song.

I don't understand whay you mean.

If it's the fact that WCE lost well that was not unexpected, we were playing in Adelaide who were $1.18 favourites.

My point was that I would not have wanted to go to Subi and see the season end like Freo's being favourites with a parochial crowd behind them. I would have been very upset.

Overall Freo has had a good developing season and will improve next year in all probability. Connolly is a good coach.

As for your childish abuse, I'll ignore it as usual, you really need to grow up.

Frodo I have read a few of your various posts and I am afraid you are a very angry person and it is supporters like you that really bug me you go sprouting off your mouth before your game and guess what you got belted too but your excuses - injuries and we had to play away big bloody deal what about our injuries we were beaten by a better team and I cant see one of us making excuses.
I will remember our year for what it was finishing 5th on the ladder winning a fantastic derby last week and making the finals for the very first time and being so passionate last night that we drowned out the bombers song and sheedy commenting on our passion we may have lost but 95% were still there after the game:mad:
