The saints came out to play today...
At Morrabin- won the coin toss- home ground advantage- would be just into teh 4th qtr at the moment I predict- and I heard on a radio updated- that at 3qtr time the score was:
19.10.124 (Roos)
to
2.7.19(Saints)

105point thrashing.

GO ROOS

If you play a football game and miss 5 of your good players, let's take Pickett, Carey, King, Harvey & Archer out of your side, you would struggle.

If you look at St.Kilda missing:
Aaron Hamill
Nathan Burke
Andrew Thompson
Austinn Jones
Heath Black
Lenny Hayes
Fraser Gehrig
Peter Everitt
Steven Lawrence
Jason Cripps
Stewart Loewe
Justin Koschitzke
along with a few other good young kids, then if you consider that Callaghan, Capuano, Harvey, Oliver were playing their very first games back in any competition since breaking down with injuries, then if you consider that others such as Beetham, Begley, Knobel were only playing their second or third games back from long layoffs it explains a lot.

Then if you consider the rest on the field with the exception of Peckett, Hudghton, Riewoldt, Voss, Plapp, Davis, Blake, Baker, Wulf, Schwarze & Milne were either first game, or first year youngsters- then I THINK it explains a drubbing.

Still if you wanna gloat- gloat. I look forward to an even playing field next time.

St Kilda had quite a few players out today....I wouldn't take that much from the win tashi, we achieved what we set out to achieve. It's bad form to bag another club on their board at the best of times, let alone after a practice match

stkilda still have a lot of explaining to do. We had exactly the same amount of men out there as the Roos did so to get done by that amount no matter whos in or out is not acceptable especially with all the build up to this 'big day at Moorabbin'!

Team selection yes I would disagree with playing kids.

As for the same amount of men? So what, 18 year old kids playing their first games compared to 30 year old experienced footballers will obviously be outclassed, outmuscled & outplayed.

Don't hang the kids- it's not their fault. Leadership on the field is an extremely underrated thing. The only player old enough to be a leader that was out there today was Justin Peckett, and he's hardly captain, vice captain, or deputy vice captain material.

um 105 points? and no not all Roos players out there today were aged 30 there were quite a few youngsters amongst the Roos line up also!

Don't be pedantic, you know exactly what I mean.

Troy Schwarze VS Sav Rocca? How much experience, height, weight etc etc etc is he giving away?

Jason Blake VS McCartney? Ditto Explanation

Daniel Wulf on Wayne Carey? Ditto Explanation

Roos had next to their best list available and playing, and we had a reserves side plus a handful of regular senior players.

Do the math!

Which players onfield for St.Kilda would you call a leader?? That's right NONE! Compare that to a bunch of north captains, vice captains & on field leaders and there is an ENORMOUS amount of difference.

As for that crazy lady, that kept telling the saints players to "Go to their happy place" when having a set shot for goal....

See a psychaitrist PUHLEEZE......

Read the reports and we were looking to have a loss of about 8-10 goals with the inexperienced side. Thommo was looking at what the 2nd and 3rd Tier players could do.. mostly being young players... we did get embarrassed but in these circumstances you cannot take anything from the match... good experience for the young players and I hope we do the same thing for the next couple of games... I wanna know who's ready to step up for the saints...

so does that answer your question Tash why there wern't any more senior players on the field?... It was a practise match in every sence of the word...

1 Excuses
2 Bag the Players
3 Sack the Coach

That comes from being losers!!!

In your case it goes like this:

1 Auto Fellatio
2 Broken Neck
3 Death

That comes from being a stupid prick!!!

On the game, I must say I was a little in shock after getting SMS updates of the scores. It wasn't until I was at the wedding reception last night that I found out that we had 11 or 12 of our best 22 out of the side. Not that you can feel relieved after a 21 goal loss anyway but I did feel slightly better. Harvey getting through unscathed was the most important thing.

What surprised me was that they decided to rest all of our best players on what should have been a day of celebration. Moorabbin is a special ground to many saints fans and that was indicative of the crowd that attended the game. Resting so many good players at the same time, while giving youngsters a chance, is also throwing them out to the wolves. I suppose emotion has to be taken out of the equation when selecting footy sides and the selectors have taken the option of using next weeks practice match as our major hit out before the season. It still was a strange decision but one that no saints fan will be complaining about if we beat Carlton in round one.

i had high hopes that we could beat carlton in rund 1. but lately i have become quite pessimistic. not just becuase of the losses although it does not help ;)

but also the fact that i think everitt was going to kick half our goals this year, the lack of confidence shown by the players since the melbourne game. i would've thought the the melbourne should have given them more confidencde but it has done the opposite, i think.

lol

i wish some of our players had as much fight in them as you have sav. :D

thankfully i was away and missed the carnage on saturday. it was a practice game, we had 1/2 our team out but any 21 goal loss is an embarrassment for the club. at least grant thomas has not offered any excuses and has pin pointed what the problem is, and has been, these last couple of years, mental weakness. as sainter has said it was disappointing in that the fringe players were given an opportunity to show what they were capable of and failed miserably to make the grade. to highlight the difference between the roo's and the saints can you imagine a north melbourne side with 1/2 their team out losing to a full strength st kilda side by 21 goals. i can't because pagan has instilled a level of pride in performance into all his players at the club. this is grant thomas' biggest undertaking as coach, to instill some pride and self belief into our mentally scarred players and it will be a slow process only helped by winning games.

next weeks game against the pies is an important hit out for us, nothing less than a competitive performance will be acceptable against a team that has not won any pre season games.

great to see banger got through the game unscathed. :D
