If anyone is anywhere near the beach, go out the back, have a glass of wine and enjoy the show. This is gonna be one crazy good thunder storm. In the last 5-6 minutes I counted 73 different flashes and it isnt near Adelaide yet either.

The dogs are going crazy at the moment. Got quite a few loud and bright lightning strikes down Port Adelaide way.

Its not helping with all the heat though, feels like were in far north Queensland :thumbsd:

Sounds like a small afternoon shower to us up here.........:D

When we have a normal wet season storm roll through overnight the weather bureau equipment at the airport generally averages between 1000- 2000 strikes in the Darwin area alone.........

As for rainfall a good storm will see 4 inches (100mm) of rain in under an hour.........

Also when we get thunder up here it's the reverberation after the main strike that keeps the ground shaking compared to the short sharp cracks you generally get down south.

You are not wrong, it’s disgusting. The AC goes on for 10 – 15 mins and then you get to cold, it gets turned off and then the humidity is through the roof and it has to go back on again.

I have to start work at like 8am tomorrow; I guess I will be taking a nanna nap between morning tea and lunch.

crows98 agreeing with me. The rain must be sending us crazy

:)

Just got back home from chasing this beast....there is no better weather than what we had. Forget boring sunny weather, this is REAL WEATHER!! Bloody fantastic, lightning every second, dual layer stacked gustfront with ground scraping cloud, got destroyed up port wakefield road, zero visibolity, very close bolts.

Here is a pic of it coming in further north:

Not my pic but basically what I saw, but was darker with lightning lighting structure up.

Adelaide rarely gets the moisture required to get such good structure and rain is much needed. Was awesome storm.

Here's a small lightning strike from during a small tropical storm last wet season.........I'll try and find some other pics over the weekend which show a typical storm for up here.

Umm, wow. That's an amazing photo, so close to the bolt and perfect timing to take the shot. Obviously you've have the camera set up to take a photo every second or something.

You just need to put it on time capture dont you, and hope that there is a bolt during that time?

yeah that shot would have to have been taken with the shutter left open for longer than the norm (time lapse style) . Still must be a decent digital camera to take it as the average ones only allow around a 3-5 second shutter time. everytime there's a storm i try toget a shot like that with my camera but can't, need to talk to the missus and ask her to let me upgrade my camera

NO idea as I didn't take the shot but as others have said the person knew what they were doing.......I'll post some other pics in the next week or so that show just how our 'natural firework nights look' during the wet season.

No Tv and Beer makes Crows98 go something, something....it must be the rain.

I agree with you on a few things Rory, like OBJ is a jackarse.

10,000 plus in one night at the RAAF base a few years back.
I once drove past a coconut tree that had just lost it's top with the dirt where it fell on the ground still in the air. It got struck just as I was rounding the bend.
There were a couple of blokes just "staring" at it only a few yards away. Real poo-poo material that one. :D

It reminded me of Melbourne last night. Haven't seen as intense a storm since we lived in Victoria-and the Eastern Freeway got flooded, had a life boat down it rescuing a cabbie from drowning!

The rain's welcome, I just hate it windy. There's too many trees around here that are prone to falling over.
