Most know now that the ticketing for finals matches is based on club membership numbers. I think I saw a figure of something like 20,000 tickets would go to WC members and 16,000 to Freo members in the case of a derby final. The rest I assume is allocated by the AFL in various ways.

That does seem unfair to WC fans (can't believe I said that) however that is it and we will of course benefit from that in the situation of say 2nd v 3rd or 1st v 4th.

However I have just realised that this could even more unfairly affect us the other way should we finish top 4, win the first week then play WC in a prelim at Subi. This is very possible should Freo/WC miss each other the first week and we have both finished top 4.

In that scenario we would be the designated home team, but not only have to 'share' our tickets with the away team, but actually have less supporters ticketed (16000 v 20000) for the game. That is a worse situation than WC face the first week.

Of course at this stage we would all take that scenario as it would mean we are 1 week from a GF. However the AFL need to pull their finger out on this for next season and beyond.

The AFL have never given either competing club preference when it comes to finals, because the concept of 2 local teams competing is not new. If anything, i'd be more inclined to split it 50/50 regardless of membership numbers.

From a numbers point of view you are correct. In terms of noise, support etc 16k of Freo supporters far exceeds 20k of toasters.

Ticket balleting should have a preference system even amongst members.

It should be based on a combination of when you first became member and for how many years you have been member.

I will furious if i miss out on any home finals after being a foundation member and holding tickets every season.

There is one, the Harbour Masters.

Im one of those, so I'll be fine. Sorry, that doesn't help, does it?

Ill text you score updates.

Two thoughts :

1) I suppose Freo can always get tickets of disgruntled West Coast supporters as they file out at 3/4 time.

2) Heard on the radio last night a unique and meritorious suggestion. Each regular season derby, the tickets are split roughly 50/50 with both sets of supporters. That way half of the Freo members go to the first derby and half to the second. Same for the mob next door.

That means all members of both clubs get to see one derby. And for each one there is a great atmosphere.

Build the new stadium with a capacity of at least 80,000 (no roof please) and the problem is solved for all.

Just imagine....40,000 of us and 40,000 slimes for a final. And half the place empty at 3/4 time.

But with the way this mob is stuffing around in just deciding where to build it, let alone getting to a design and construction phase, I will be wheeled in via wheelchair and too bloody old and stuffed to really get into it.

Hurry up you idiots!!

Would not be much of an atmosphere for most games though. You would have 22 regular season matches, and whilst both teams are going well you may get 6 games of more than 50,000 out of the 22.

The rest of the time you will have a lot of empty seating. And that will be worse when both sides have their down cycle. Looks crap when half the seats are empty.

I favour a 60,000 stadium that can be cosmetically reduced or physically expanded when needed.

I agree, although I haven't been a member for as long as that. I've been one since 1999 (7 years) and I would be majorly ****ed off if I missed out on tickets to a home final.

they could always do similar to the dome in melbourne - we had bought cheap seats but becasue there wasn';t much crowd the top tiers were closed & we were all plonked in the good seats downstairs & the atmosphere was pretty good
