What sickens me is that there are almost no costs involved selling a ticket over the internet, everything is cheaper on the internet as there are less costs involved. Yet somehow they can charge us $5 for handling, at what point do they 'handle' the ticket, its all done electronically and it is the customer that has to print the ticket out.

Disgrace.

It is a scam. Even if it cost $5 to process a ticket how come they charge more for finals tickets? It should be the same or probably less.

Maybe Graham Samuels should be approached as it is a monopoly. You can't buy a ticket anywhere else so no competition to "keep the basta@rds honest".

I have contacted both Consumer Affairs and the ACCC about this, but got nowhere. They said that because you have the option to go to an outlet, or get them over the phone, or turn up on the day and get a ticket, there's nothing they can do. They said that for example, legally, if Coles wanted to charge a fee to get into their supermarket, they could. But because Safeway exists, everyone would go to Safeway instead of paying the fee at Coles. So because Ticketmaster have the outlets (even though there's none at any Myer stores, and half of them arent open on weekends) they can still charge that fee and the authorities cant do anything about it. So yes, its a monopoly, but because there are numerous ways of buying tickets they can get away with it.

It's rubbish, isn't it?

I think $2.00 or $2.50 is a fair price to charge. They do need to make a profit. Whacking an extra $5.50 on the ticket when used through the Internet is just pathetic really. If you purchase ten tickets a year using this service, it sure does add up for a low income earner. Ticketmaster is a service I use when I have no choice really and do need to use it.

I got my reply from ticketmaster in regards to my complaint letter that I posted earlier. Perhaps unsuprisingly I have received basically the same message back as the previous poster:

" Dear Matthew

Thank you for your email regarding your dissatisfaction with the transaction fees for Etihad Stadium events for 2009. Please note Ticketmaster transaction fees are contractual between Ticketmaster and the venue. As such unfortunately, fee prices cannot be revisited.

Please note should you not wish to pay a handling fee on your purchase you can select to purchase your tickets from any Ticketmaster Outlet as outlet bookings do not incur a handling charge. "

Yeah and they closed all bar 3 locations down... makes it pretty hard, 5 bucks on petrol or 5 bucks for virtual petrol.

Its a disgrace. Why was it not there last year?

Ticketmaster is absolutely pathetic.

On a brighter note I've been happy to use Ticketek to book MCG games this year. Not only does the website seem a lot smoother, but as an AFL member I get the option of sitting undercover or open air on ground level (Ticketmaster only offers 'best available seats') and no $5.50 fee to print my own tickets.

Would love to see Ticketek snaffle the Etihad Stadium rights too.

I baffled as everyone why tickermaster changed "their poilcy", im an afl member and the last few years I book my level one seats for my family and Iandprint the tickets off myself, now they want to slug my $5 for the pleasure, yet as i work in the city i can walk 15 minutes down the road and collect them from the outlet, which they pay rent for, from a person, who the pay a wage, albit minimum. I fail to see the logic.
Lucky i work in the city as there are no outlets in the outer sth east suburbs.

I irony is that with tickek they make it cheaper to buy on-line, and slug you extra to buy them from an outlet.

Obvliously its to cover the cost of the email they sent to you....

That is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. Not that i use ticketmaster, but where they physically handle the tickets (in the outlet) you dont get charged a handling fee, and if they dont handle them at all, you are charged!

also if someone could tell me, im not form the ol' days where there was no internet, if i go to some place, can i buy a ticket, say, tomorrow? without the fee? or not?

Yeah, it's really just a form of theft. You print the ticket out on your printer, with your ink and they charge you for the privilege. Charming.
Theft? Lol

How is it theft? Is it theft that you buy a screwdriver from buntings for $5 more than they bought it for?

They provide a service and you pay for the service

Haha, I got bored a couple of years back, so thought I'd follow this up and see where I got. Unfortunately I don't think I have the email thread anymore, because it was a thing of beauty.

I started by emailing EFC as I'm a member. They said its a Ticketmaster issue and I should contact them. I forwarded it to them. They said it was actually decided by the stadium, as the fee goes primarily to them, to maintain the scanner and turnstile machines at the stadium!

Sounds strange, that you'd need $7 in maintenance costs for every ticket that is scanned. Doesn't seem to be a very reliable setup, but I did as instructed, and forwarded my email to Etihad Stadium management.

Well the stadium had no idea what I was talking about, and told me in no uncertain terms it was all dictated by Ticketmaster.

So back to TM I go. They by now had changed their mind and told me the AFL decided the fee as it's their event.

I was told I could just upgrade my ticket on the day at the window for zero fee. Fair enough. I did point out that wasn't ways ideal at Essendon games - generally for a large crowd less than half of the ticket windows are open. Some people can find it hard to get there an hour or two before the game to avoid queueing, as per their advice. Damn work, family etc. Hence you're usually faced with a half hour wait, generally missing the first bounce. This was funniest at our game against GC in 2012, when I missed the first 10 goals!

So now I try the AFL, who tell me the fees for ticketing as dictated by Ticketmaster and - get this - cannot be negotiated. Poor little AFL, absolutely no power to negotiate on behalf of their members!

It was all quite strange too, given Ticketek provide an identical service (internet sales) at the MCG for zero fee. Yep, not a cent.

I ended up just forwarding the whole mile long email chain to all 4 parties and asked what the go was. No response, from anybody.

So yeah, it's just a blatant revenue gouge.

It defies logic. Do everything yourself and use your own printer and pay $7.50 or go to a a shop, get the ticket and pay no extra. These guys are a joke and need to burn in hell.
