Richmond Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff Bond, one of Australia’s leading sports psychologists and corporate trainers to the new position of General Manager – Learning and Development
Jeff Bond has had extensive experience working with elite athletes and coaches in a variety of sports for more than 30 years.
From 1982 until 2004, he was Head of Sports Psychology at the Australian Institute of Sport, where he worked particularly closely with the highly successful Australian swimming, equestrian and rowing teams.
During that time, he provided performance strategy support as a sport psychologist to nine Australian summer and winter Olympic Games teams and individuals across a wide range of sports.
He also was sport psychologist to Australian tennis star Pat Cash when he won the Wimbledon singles championship in 1987.
Since 2004, Bond has been the Senior Account Director for the Lane4 Management Group Australasia where he conducted an extensive corporate training programme around the world. His specialty is performance psychology for sport, business and mental toughness.
Bond also has a broad Australian Football background and has provided workshops for AFL teams visiting the AIS for training camps, and delivered coaching education programs for the Australian Coaching Council.
Richmond’s CEO, Steven Wright, said Bond’s appointment was a real coup for the Tigers.
"This is an innovative, new role – the first of its kind in the AFL and Jeff brings impeccable credentials to the club. We are delighted to have him on board,” Wright said.
“Jeff will head up a new Department of Learning and Development. He will work right across the club’s entire operations with a highly-credentialled support team.
“In years gone by, clubs solely focused on the physical development of the players. These days the areas of development and training at AFL clubs is so much more complex. It’s about helping make the players mentally stronger and better able to perform to their optimum at the game’s elite level both on and off the field, as well as ensuring that our staff are working to their maximum potential.
"We could not think of anyone better than Jeff Bond to fill this key position."
