I'm delighted that the club has joined with other Victorian AFL and round-ball clubs to sign an agreement that we will not have betting agencies as sponsors. Well done to Benny (and the other jets on the board) for saying no to easy money for the club, understanding as we do that the money too often comes straight out of the pockets of grass-root supporters, minus a hefty margin.

I've got no issue with the existence of sports betting, but I hated seeing our website and brand being used by a betting agency to normalise gambling to our younger members. There's way too much of it around the AFL in general at the moment.

I've been a vocal critic of the club both publicly and privately about this issue so credit where it's due on this one. I'm not against gambling but I am against the sleazy/seedy marketing of these bottom feeding betting agencies that target the weaker, more vulnerable people in our society.

Now to get rid of the last few pokie venues on our books and I'll shut up. By the sounds of it, that is already in the works. :-)
