Worst floods in 60 years this week! Dams will never fill again says Tim in 2007? Flannery denies saying this rather stating: " By 2040 the normal rainfall situation will be that of long-term water shortage". Either way, he's kicked over the sandbag!

for the record Flannery denies saying " that Australian dams will never fill again"

what he did say was " We’re already seeing the initial impacts and they include a decline in the winter rainfall zone across southern Australia, which is clearly an impact of climate change, but also a decrease in run-off. Although we’re getting say a 20 per cent decrease in rainfall in some areas of Australia, that’s translating to a 60 per cent decrease in the run-off into the dams and rivers. That’s because the soil is warmer because of global warming and the plants are under more stress and therefore using more moisture. So even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and our river systems "

There is a difference but he could have worded it much better to avoid confusion "So even the rain that falls, due to run off, it isn’t going to fill our dams and our river systems as it usually would.

but that wording would have been sensible

Why do you rightest keep going after one of the worlds greatest biologists who has warned us, correctly, about the dangers of global warming and destruction of the biosphere?

Why is he like a red rag to a bull to the Murdoch press?

I went to a talk by him about 6 or 7 years ago, he said basically that the liberals strategies for promoting climate change were bound to fail because of simple economics, renewables were likely to become much much cheaper. over the next decade than coal. And so it came to pass.

I do love the simplicity of a Liberal Party mind. It rains, a dam or two fills, global warming is over

I presume you've posted this straight after rolling in from the anti-vaxxer protest?

Keep walking on that flat earth too.

Getting my shot with no problem, I am terribly sorry if the facts and quotes of this madman are true. No flat earth or moon hoax to be found. What's missing is any sound argument from the defenders of this nonsense. Is it not a major storm up there? Is it not extreme floods and Dams overflowing? Tim told us it would never be so on many occasions. Not sure where you've rolled in from, reality is not one of them.

Coal is still 4c /kwh. No renewable comes close to that.

He said Adelaide and Perth would be ghost towns by now I think.

Im not sure if any of his climate predictions have come true. Which probably makes sense given he is a dinosaur expert. Not a climate expert.

Give Tim a bell, ask him if he's got flood insurance ....

So even the rain that falls, due to run off, it isn’t going to fill our dams and our river systems as it usually would

Uber advise the snorkel Tim ordered is unable to be delivered as the property does not appear to have the jetty as per Google Maps.
Where is John Doyle & that tinnie !!

Tim Flannery sure said a lot of things for someone who apparently left nothing to link to on the Internet

Must have a mate in common with the AFL, who regularly have embarrassing material deleted from the net, even from independent (of the AFL) web sites.

Just because its not the 'net does not mean anything did not happen.

Gee, there's a lot about him, you can't have tried very hard. Do you know about Google? it's this search engine thingy. Very useful, you should try it.

Discovering the dinos at dinosaur cove in Victoria, identifying 20+ new extinct critters, identifying 29 new extant marsupials, mostly from PNG - these are mentioned in his wiki page, go have a look. Tim Flannery - Wikipedia His books about it are pretty good. From the wiki " Flannery's work prompted Sir David Attenborough to describe him as being "in the league of the all-time great explorers like Dr David Livingstone".

He is perhaps Australias most productive and famous biologist. He will be remembered long after Andrew Bolt and the other News Corp nuffies who bag him are dead. If you only read the Herald Sun you will have a very biased and incorrect view of him.

A really great Australian.

Climate change leading to more severe extreme weather events, imagine that.

How am I meant to judge his comments when I don't know what they are?

there is loads on the net about what he said or didn't say

refer above and

If there are loads about what he has said on the net why am I not seeing links from people who are quoting him?

I am quite aware what Google is, but why should I do the job of those quoting him?

You don't understand Climate Change do you?

You're aware climate change means more extreme weather events, including both droughts and floods, right? And as has been established above, Flannery didn't say that. You're just gullible enough to take Andrew Bolt's word as gospel.

Coal is still 4c /kwh. No renewable comes close to that.
Origin Energy disagrees with you. And it's only the newest, most advanced coal plants that can get a marginal price for coal power that low. Existing plants are about 5-5.5c/kWh, which is about the same as solar and wind. So they are close, and are getting cheaper every single year.

that head of BD at AEMO claims the cheapest wind in Australia is $0.22kwh

forrest group claim their wind is $0.15kwh but that price is not firmed. Thus the claim by AEMO of $0.22 firmed is reasonable.

Sources? Origin's head of energy trading and operations says 5-5.5c per kWh in the link I posted. Are your figures the marginal cost of operation, or the life cycle cost?

You obviously don't read the posts in the first place...I said "he denies this" Yet you will find plenty of evidence to the contrary. Of course the Climate Changes, ( the mad activisits just use the extreme events to further their mad cause) but as that old poem written in 1903 and published in 1908 goes, by a homesick young woman aged 19 with no aid of "google maps" " I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and FLOODING rains!" Do they teach anything in schools these days? I guess this has happened before? Tim goofed as most of these climate warriors do and sometimes the scaremongering falls flat with the predictions. The Greta worshippers can't stand it. The world has a lot more pressing issues in 2021 an The "mammologist" just craves attention.
