Given that Tim Notting has been mentioned in trade discussions on some of these boards I was having a bit of a hunt around on the AFL site for info on him. I was interested to discover that he played a few games for Richmonds twos. Not sure if it's common knowledge but posted it here for anyone interested in trivia...........

Originally from Navarre, near Stawell, he is a player who didn’t boast the customary long junior representative background that most players new to the AFL have behind them these days. He was a stand-out junior performer at local level, winning three U16 B&F awards, but was surprisingly overlooked by the Ballarat Rebels early in ‘96, and instead played as a 17-year-old Stawell Secondary College student with Navarre seniors in the local Lexton League. He also played under coach Jimmy Jess in the inter-league game against Maryborough-Castlemaine at Maryborough.

He received a mid-season call-up from the Rebels, and later played three games with the Richmond Reserves. Ironically, he played with the “Tiger Twos” at the MCG in the curtain-raiser to Fitzroy’s last game in Melbourne. And a month later he was a member of the Rebels finals side that played in the MCG curtain-raiser to the Brisbane-North Melbourne preliminary final - the last game of the Bears' era.

His coach at the Richmond Reserves was Rod O’Riley, and when O’Riley joined the Brisbane Lions as Development Coach for the 1997 AFL season he strongly recommended Notting at the ‘96 Draft. Accordingly, he was drafted on his athletic potential.

More trivia:
In 1996 Brisbane drafted Rory Hilton at #3 with it's first pick and Tim Notting at #26 with it's second. The rest of Brisbane's picks were former Fitzroy players; Chris Johnson, Jarrod Molloy, John Barker, Shane Clayton, Brad Boyd, Simon Hawking, Scott Bamford, and Nick Carter .

In 1996 Richmond drafted:
# 16 Pat Steinfort
# 35 Mark Chaffey
# 41 Matthew Manfield
# 55 Steven McKee
# 63 Jason Baldwin
# 72 Brent Frewen
#79 Daniel Donati
and picked up Darren Gaspar at #3 in the Pre-season draft .
