Time for Kouta to back-off

Kouta is again backing Stevo publicly for captaincy role, once was enough !

IMO it is time for him to back off and allow the Carlton administration to do their job and go through whatever process they see fit in selecting our next captain.

I love Kouta but he seems to be trying to keep his name in the papers while his book is still "hot off the press".

Kouta carries on about how much he loves the club, but seems more intent on self promotion ATM.

IIRC Kouta also backed Lance for the captaincy last year

I i don't think it makes sense to captain a side before you have played for them.. Sure judd has the respect of the players, but he doesn't know them or what makes them tick... He's never run out in a blue guernsey..

Depends on how you want to look at things.

On one hand
Premership captain
Brownlow medalist
Best player in the AFL
Consumate professional and trainer.
Clean record off field.

On the other hand.
Abit overweight and has had pre season trouble in getting his weight down.
Loves a party and a beer off field
By his own admission hasnt made every post a winner for himself.
Has not set the world on fire.

Kouta also believed Lace should have stayed...and probaby had to be talked into ommitting that Ang should be redrafted for experience...

Now we all know he has a book.... God knows he has given it plenty of lip service but ... nobody cares who he thinks should be captain.. certainly not the people in charge....thats why Judd will be captain...

Or were you expecting him to say he wanted to be captain in his press conference..
Go back and read what he said...

And the club WILL make Judd captain just before the season starts when he has settled in.

As for a FORMER club ampion having an opinion??... ithought he already gave that to us...

Unless Kouta wants to bankroll the club with his book he shoul care what the powers to be (In this case Icke and Swann ) want to do... and thats Judd... not Stevens..... Judd!!!


Kouta loves his little mates... he doesnt understand what makes a club professional... and how to improve the culture of the club.

Judd will change the clture of the club.... as captain and because he is a yardstick for everybody else.

As they watch a true professional close up they will understand what is needed to be truly professional and succesful.

This was non existent under Koutas captaincy with other senior players being Lance Campo and Stevens..none of who understand professional a modern day outlook .

Fancy kids having to emulate them!!!

And that is another reason why we headhunted Judd... he brings a winers mentality and edge to the club from in front . Compared to what we had.

Well he had an opportunity to tell you under his captaincy that off field Carlton were a rabble with players drinking and not training hard enough.. but he didnt tell you that Stevens said it in his moment of honesty.

He didnt want the captaincy at WC cos he was coming home and that was put on him so he wouldnt....

He WILL be captain next year.

There is no way he was going to say at his press conference he wants to be captain right away....

Kouta is out of his depth if he is going to fight what Icke and Swann backed with Pratts money think...
Like i said... if he bankrolled the club and had the nouse of Swann i wouldnt have a problem with him calling for Stevens to be captain f thats what he belived but he is not bankrolling the club... and he doesnt have the nouse of Swann.. and that is why Lance is not at the club any longer and Stvens wont be captain... the boys club thing is over!!!....

Ratten broke away from it after alot of pressure from Sticks to keep LAnce...

The club is putting emphasis on what needs to happen .. not on 'olde worlde' mentality...

He is more influencial than media personalities, he is a premiership former player, "shouldabeen" brownlow winner, and B&F winner. Some names on the board will listen and value his opinion, but their will be others who dont, and that is their decision (listen to him or not), IMO they shouldn't, unless kouta gets offered a possi on the board

The decision is not made by board members.... its made by Ratten Icke and Swann...

Board membes have stars in their eyes.. thats why Stcicks used to have an influence.

If you read what Kouta says apart from turning the screws for Stevens "standout candidate"... etc... he then goes on and on and on about Stevens.... but he doesnt even know what impact Judd would have cos this is the crux bit.... HE ISNT THERE ANY LONGER AND HAS NO CLUE...... who the real standout captain cadidate is...


He is just pushing mates barrow...ust as he pushes Lances... Campos... Elliots...

Its the old mentaity that almost killed us...
Its just the kids who are old enough to remember him at his best but still young enugh to be not worldly that isten to his la la land aproach on whats best for the club...

He was reluctant at WEagles for 2 reasons,

1. He said already that he thought to himself that at the end of 2005 around the losing GF that after his contract was finished he would be heading back to Victoria.
2. Ben Cousins was still in the eyes of the group the captain, who the WEagles removed to appease the media, AFL and opposition supporters after his booze bus and other indescretions.

Now at our club our most recent two captains are gone.... our leadership group bar Stevens (who is coming back from a serious injury) is still raw and young who have not tasted even a finals game or success of any kind....

here we have a guy who is a 2 time GF player, brownlow medalist (would of been 2 time this year if his body held up), all australian etc etc etc..... and is being paid more than any other player on our list.... if he is the champion we all know he is, the captaincy should be of no issue for him to take... but I think he's hesitant for he doesn't want to be the "new guy" who is given everything on a platter....

but in the end he or IMO Simpson are the only logical choices.

I completely agree, BUT I don't want him captain this year, in some way for the above reason. He needs to just be able to into the groove of the new footy club and get his body ready for 2008.
I'm happy as anyone to get Judd but credentials or not I think Stevo should have it this year and see where it goes from there. Problem is I want Stevo, then passing the torch to Murphy so where does Judd fit in!

The whole point is that its not what we think or what Kouta thinks that matters.

Ratts, Icke, Swann and the leadership group will come to a decision in a couple of months after everyone has put their case forward and Judd has settled in.

To start trying to create media pressure is bad for the club
