Dissappointing game, but remember where our expectations were at the start of the season.

What we lacked was a decent forward to kick goals and take marks. I think its time Menschy got a run, and at least get a decent farewell to fine service for the Catters

Yep spot on. Menschy has been in very good form in the VFL, kicking his 3-5 goals a game. It would be a good send off for him to play a game in the 1s, but at least he will be able to play in a VFL premiership this year, so all his work will at least be rewarded with a premiership!

Go Cats:)

I wouldn't be surprised to see this against St. Kilda. Thompson has to pick the best form players, before finals qualification hits a crisis mode, simple as that.

There is no crisis just yet down at Skilled Stadium!! We had a bad day today after being up for the last 8 weeks, (7 wins & 1 narrow loss) and will bounce back with a big win next week against St Kilda.

But if Geelong loses to St. Kilda, there's going to be a sense of crisis, more likely than not-- with the presumption being that it will take two wins out of the final three games of a tough run-in to make the eight.

And about Ronnie Burns... the Cats were on a red-hot streak over the course of a two-month period not because of him, but rather in spite of his form on the field. Mark Thompson's not in a position right now where he can hide a gameplan around Ronnie Burns-- at this point, he's become a liability.

"Bomber" ought to bring in Mensch in place of Burns now.... before it's too late.

Just my two cents' worth...

Cheers,
William

Yep, no crisis yet, it's only one really bad loss after seven straight wins. We'll be fired up and beat the Saints next week!

Go Cats!! :)

If Geelong loses to a team like St Kilda, then it's probably better that we don't make the finals this season!!

We will not lose to the Saints next week at Telstra Dome... the game is much to important for us to let slip!!

Go Cats!!

Next week's game is to important to drop. If Geelong want to be a serious finals contender, they should thrash St.Kilda. A hard week on the track this week and we'll bouce back hard.

Agreed. It won't be as heavy a rout as the last time against the Saints earlier in the season, but it should be a pretty comprehensive win.

However, should the Cats lose, then it's panic-stations-mode, certainly. Not saying that is what's definitely going to happen, but it's what could happen.

But back to the topic... David Mensch, on his form in the VFL side, deserves a call-up into the seniors. Helping the Geelong juniors winning a VFL premiership would be nice, but he has an opportunity to help the Cats cement a finals place would be even better.

Cheers,
William

White or Mensch. Both in great form in the 2s. I agree playing White off the bench would be more valuable than Burns. Ronnie needs a couple of weeks in the 2s.

On this basis, I feel McCarthy would be the more likely chance of being given an opportunity in the seniors next week.

Graham and Milburn must have some sort of injury cloud.
Lets say they don't pull up. :(

In:
Mensch
Sanderson
Lord/White

Out:
Burns
Milburn
Graham

???

Hypothetical. Lets hope Graham and Milburn and Sanderson pull through this week

You would think that they would include Mensch and McGrath at some stage in the next four weeks for a deserved send off, but McCarthy's best on ground in the reserves might be the overriding factor this week.

badcat,

The only way forward for the Geelong Football Club is to play the younger players and McCarthy is very close to selection in my opinion.

Mensch and McGrath have been great servants for our club over a number of years but their time has past.

Is it such a great time to bring in another debutant? It is past the stage where you can do that and get away with it , so to speak.
McCarthy could be a good player in the future and he needs time in the VFL, I think with losing 2 experienced players in Graham and Milburn we need experience to replace them as this game is all too important.

Mitchell White must come back and maybe someone like Brent Grgic, not necessarily him but someone with plenty of senior footy under their belt.

so you see no reason what so ever to give menschy and timmy at least one more game?

if so, thats rather heartless i think.

Yep, I think they should get a fairwel game, although I doubt that they will get one. Both have been great players for Geelong over the years and it would be a fitting tribute. But at least they will get to play in a premiership in the VFL.

Mattster,

So which 2 young kids doing well would you drop back to the VFL for no reason whatsoever just to include Mensch and McGrath for one game???

I can understand where you're coming from here mate, but there comes a time when you need to move on and unfortunately for Bluey and Menschy, there are other players who should be considered ahead of them now when Mark Thompson and the rest of the match committee sit down to select the team and rightfully so.

It's tough but then you have to be that way sometimes to get anywhere in this elite AFL competition!!

Did I say not to bring them back?

But why should we bring them back for just the one game while we are in with a shot of playing finals?
If we were without a chance of playing finals then bring them back for one more game, we don't have anything to lose.
But we need the best side possible and I don't think they are in our best side.

The stakes are too high to consider tampering with the side because of a little sentiment.

Spot on.

However both (especially Bluey) deserve another opportunity.

If Tim McGrath isn't better option then Daniel Foster then i know nothing about football.

Adding Bluey (and Menschy) would add invaluable experience to the line up, especially come finals time.
