Why doesnt the time-keeping official have a say in what happened?

The siren went immediately after the ball-up or just before, there was no time for fiora to get that ball out!

Bloody Unprofessional outfit the AFL are. The same type of time-keeping madness happens in Sydney.

Because under Law 10.4.1 and 10.4.2 of the 2005 laws of Australian Football, ANY FIELD UMPIRE and only ANY FIELD UMPIRE can signal the end of the quarter/match.

I totally agree and you have my full support. Three mistakes in 3 weeks by the umps. The field umpire should have had the sense to realise that about 8 fremantle players jumped up in the air and waved their hands. Then a freo player was in his left ear saying the siren had gone.

My point would be if a player tells an umpire that the siren has gone, especially in this case as time-was stopped (for ball up). Why did the umpire just throw up the ball ??? How about be smart and question the time keeper ?

That would make sense. btw, melbourne should be 3-2. freo should also be.

If Chris comes out and complains i really hope Daniher Supports him.

This game really should be a fremantle win period. Shame AFL Shame

Can't go against the rules though, :D ....

Freo should (an will) get the four points in any sanity is still in the AFL.

I made a mistake, i thought the ump had called time off with like 1 second left, he actually called it with like 4 seconds gone past the final siren!!

Good on Stkilda i say, they played this match at Aurora stadium, with the siren so quiet the umps couldn't hear it!!!!!!

If it were played at the Dome then this wouldn't have happened..

It doesnt make sense anyway you slice it. Either way, they need to change the way the quarters/matches end. Put it on the scoreboard like every other sport.

I just can't figure out why the game has stopped. The umpires never heard the siren. There has not been another siren. Therefore, as far as the fileed umpires are concerned there has been no siren!

Who stopped the game and why?

Exactly, if the AFL does not overturn the result they do not have any legs to stand on as to why they did not overturn it.

On abc radio a while ago I heard this...... The time keeper sounded the final siren. He (supposedly) saw the umpire raise his hands to signal the conclusion of the game. He (the timekeeper) then proceeded to fill in some reports. Someone else pointed out to him the game was still being played. He then sounded the siren a second time. So he says.

Considering I heard neither 1st nor 2nd sirens (on tv) I assume he did sound it a second time. If not the the game should still be playing.

What i'm getting at is if he didnt sound it a second time what prompted the umpire to conclude the game.

I think if anything about this is open for even more controversy is exactly 'when' did the contolling umpire signal the conclusion to the game. Something I'm yet to see clarified and I've already seen a few replays on TV and head the a replay of the ABC's call. Nothing is conclusive about when the game did officially finish.

Did anybody else see or hear the umpire signal the end of the game. ?

The siren is indicating to the umpire that the quater or game has started or finished and he lets the players know by raising his arms.
