Malthouse mused during the year that in the future there will be 1 key tall defender, 1 key tall forward, 1 ruck... and 19 runners

Why not be pioneers (yeah I know but the doggies had it forced on them) and get a jump on the competition

what would that side look like with our current list?

I’ll tell you why not. Because it is an idiotic notion. Why don’t we get a team of slow oxen to play on the patient MCG?

If you have quality talls they are like gold. If you have a team of Judds then maybe you can get away with anything. I am all for a loaded quality midfield but it didn’t win WCE a flag last year. Brisbane’s quality midfield had a great spine and was served by a winning ruckman. I know that is all in the past and the point was about the future but as someone here will tell you we were supposed to be all in hover cars by now!

The thing about the future is you don’t know it's here until it arrives if not until after it's passed.

I predict the next trend will be to follow a tem that wins a couple of flags. They may be loaded with talls or smalls but I bet they just loaded with quality.

Actually the Swans are very close to that scenario... Hall plays Pagans paddock, Goodes is more like a really big runner and Bolton isn't even 190cms
