CoggaRules makes a very, very good point, and it's one I've been harping on about myself for a while now.
Why do North struggle to attract supporters (and I'm not talking about the fairweather fans who bought memberships this year and won't renew in 2009)? They came into the VFL late and missed a whole generation of supporters. Same goes for the Dogs.
Do the math people. We have been rubbish for a whole generation now and time is nearly up, because we're running to catch the next bus, but the bus is just about closing it's door and hurrying on to the next stop.
My kids support Richmond, but are so apathetic about it, I seriously believe they will start barracking for Geelong within the next couple of years. And really, there won't be a damn thing I can do about it.
The primary school has a regular footy dress-up day. My 7-year-old puts on her Tigers T-shirt in a Geelong-mad town and you can tell what happens in the playground hey?
Most fanatical Richmond supporters are in the 30 to 55 year old age group. It's in our blood. We can't help it.
But the kids will end up following other kids.
Time has just about run out. I shudder to think what will happen if we are still near the bottom in three years time, because that's about the time we have left.
The clock is ticking very fast.
