The whole pathetic episode is just extraordinary for the club.

How highly paid sports administrators can bungle something so badly is mystifying, truly mystifying.

We should have had 2 top 10 picks (one being top 5) and secured Jimmy Toumpas. With the spare cash we could have also jagged another 'needs' based player like a gun mid or KPD.

If we come away form this with just a fine and severe warning etc it will be the best result.

Time to go Trigg, Noble, Harper.

Embarrassing.

It wasn't 3 years. He had a 2 year extension. His contract was to end in 2010 and they extended it to 2012 in 2009. So no, it does not make more sense.
No but there was 3 years left when he signed and it wouldn't surprise me considering how greedy they have been and how stupid we have been, that they wanted the extra 100k each year including 2010 and we agreed

Loose lips, sinks ships as the saying goes.

Matt Rendell does also have a tendency to say some stuff that he doesn't actually think will matter.

Also, Emma Q got the information from the Crows, John Reid, Matthew Rendell or the Tippett family. She said tonight, the last time she spoke to Kurt Tippett was in his rookie year (and had never spoken to his dad), you will find any reason to not believe anyone at the Crows fed her the information and now you're suggesting it couldn't be Rendell.

So it must be John Reid right?

That was my initial thought because he wasn't a happy camper when he left, but it's too much self incrimination. I just can't believe he would do that. I'm leaning with you on this in that the loose lips of rendell are more than likely her source.

When he signed his new contract it definitely included a re-negotiated deal for 2010.

They essentially ripped up his old deal and the new 3 year deal including a re-negotiated deal for 2010 replaced it.

I can understand where she's coming from TBH. When they asked her if she had seen the "letter" with the 3rd party deal on it, she said she hadn't and that she trusts her source.

They (Cornesy and Rowey) then basically questioned her ability as a journo, saying she should have fact checked it more. I'd say thats where she's coming from. When you've been a journo for 12 years, and have one of the best reputations in the industry, its probably a bit insulting to cop that on a public interview.

It wasn't about "copping" hard questions. It was having her journalistic ability questioned which she would've objected to.

No, I think her poor response was her problem, which caused Cornesy/ Rowey to be gobsmacked that she hadn't seen it and ran with the story. This was a reasonable response by them with some of the questions they asked after, I too was gobsmacked that she hadn't seen it. I don't think anyone would have thought that she hadn't seen it before going to press, her source must have a copy of it for her to go to press.

For a journalist that has an impeccable reputation over the years, I hope for her that she is 100% correct.

Corensy for one doesn't think so, he's still blaming Kurt

It made sense before IF ANYONE BOTHERED TO ACTUALLY READ POSTS ......

People choose to read and believe what they want .......media hasn't got much right in the last month.
Journalists "staking their reputation" on breaking stories ....to be caught out again & again & again

Journalists in Australia now are no different to tabloid journalism .......hype the story up to sell papers & advertising space.

I'll say this again for those who don't understand what underwriting means (clearly journalists don't) ......it means making up any shortfall in payments. No shortfall ...no payment ....payment made, it is declared in TPP
FFS what's so hard to understand .....and realise the only thing is MAYBE that had to be declared to AFL, but it's certainly NOT A BREACH OF TPP

That said ....the AFL had a copy of correspondence and has hung Adelaide to dry before completing its investigation ....that's very poor and they did the same with Rendell.

We didn't lose draft picks with Tippett via AFL ......we took a club stand as we all wanted ...to send a clear message that we will not be bribed and stood over by a player and his father .....think we all agree the loss of pick 23 is worth that statement being made :thumbsu:

Journalists don't have 100% proof on most subjects before they write a story ......it's about quality of sources and ethics of journalist

EQ has an impeccable reputation .....and the numbers IMO are 100% accurate ....but it's about the context & fine print of execution and administration that Emma would not have been aware off that impacts the story & reputation of the AFC

But the facts are there, a deal was done which is questionable (at best).

The mud sticks, so Trigg needs to go avoid this being seen as something the AFC do.
No there not ......

They are about the draft picks & club of choice ....but not the 3rd party administration of underwritten payments

If they were why have accountants check the clubs administration records .....just hang the club on the email at face value??

To compare any penalties we may get even if we did 'breech' the salary cap with Carlton final punishment is ridiculous. Carlton ALREADY had a suspended sentance over their head qwhich is why the penalties were so harsh. If the AFL was consistant......... Big if...... The worst we should cop is a suspended sentance and fine.

I know its been said already but what happens if it's found we've done nothing wrong, now we have lost tippet for 0 and the chance to do any trades these last few days?

We have already done wrong there is no denying that.

The problem with the AFL setting the punishment is that it acts a judge, jury and executioner. There should be a right of appeal to an independent body if the aggrieved party believes the punishment is manifestly wrong and I'm not sure there is.

Im sorry arent we the club that sticks the high morale ground?.

Trigg set a standard with the sacking of Rendell.

Regardless of context the AFC will sack someone if they bring the club into question, Trigg has done that, and has caused us to lose any ability to trade out Tippett.

If he stays, i wont be renewing my membership I am not supporting a club with double standards that big.

EQ is a draft and young talent specialist, not too hard to join the dots. It's been quite vindictive on Matt's behalf really.

No, he's not got a vindictive bone in his body. It would be a simple matter of him opening his mouth without thinking of the consequences.

He's not a complete moron Jen. Maybe he didn't appreciate the full ramifications, but he'd have known what he was doing.

If the last week has taught you anything, you should realise, you can never be sure what people are capable of.

Spot on.

It's flat out stupid and incompetent.

Who buys an appreciating asset with a condition that you'll sell it for less than it's current value at a later date??

****, we should have Toumpas.

I agree that Triggy needs to go, regardless of penalty members, supporters and surely the AFC Board and the AFL has lost complete confidence in Triggy

In all organizations misleading your board is a hanging offense

Re Harper & Noble, Iagree I'm not a fan of Harper however what were their level ofvinvolvement in this saga, personally I think Noble deserves to stay as he has been set up to fail on this trade

What were the circumstances around John Reids departure from the club? Did he leave or did we push him? I just assumed he thought it was time to leave but I've seen some people say he wasn't happy when he left.

IIRC, a few weeks ago, Triggy said any 'gentleman's' agreement was to the effect of the Crows helping KT to get to his home state and was void when KT selected $ydney. IMO the only difference from then till what Cornesy has written is 'club of his choice', and a bit of Karma for Triggy for agreeing to the gentleman's clause in the first place.
