Some very interesting races today at Rosehill, and also a couple of gooden's at Mooney Valley. Very strong interests for the upcoming Slipper, Derby and Doncaster- of which Sydney race 1 and 2 today will be the most important ones to look out for.
My tips for the Sydney card are:
R1. Charge Forward- very confident about this one to upstage Not a Single Doubt (currently at $1.10 on the tote!!)- I'm hoping it performs as I have money on it for the slipper too.
R2. Hard to see anything beating Alinghi, the only hope for mine is if Alinghi gets some trouble and allows Wager to put a big gap on her. Given that luck should play a big part in Alinghi's run, I won't have any of the short odds on offer.
R3. This is time to duck down the shops and do what you need to do before the good races start again. Not much of interest here, I'll go Before Too Long for the sake of a tip.
R4. I got a good collect on Only Words last start when it beat Ike's Dream in the Surround, was a wet track that day, so it's hard to take that form along today, and hence I won't follow up today. Instead I very much like Allgunadoit- which will probably start favourite. A good second to Impaler last start gives it the class to beat this field.
R5. Ambulance. After laying him it's last 3 starts, I'm putting this down as almost the tip of the day. Won't be paying much, but a good track, as well as it just ripening up for the Derby (Doncaster doubtful now), I reckon it's a good thing. I don't like Mummify at all at the short odds it'll be, so Ambulance will be one out in my trebles today for sure.
R6 The Coolmore- I know who Pigskin will be on in this one- Zanna. However not me today, I reckon Vocabulary is prime for this. 2.5kgs less than Private Steer, who drew the carpark, and will be having the last crack at them. Has done nothing wrong all prep against horses like Lonhro, and is a better horse than all this field except for Private Steer. Expect a good showing from Vocabulary, and a big drop in odds for the Doncaster. If you're looking for something down in the weights, then Forum Floozie the best of them.
R7. True Glo. Very pleased with his run in the Newmarket, didn't have any luck and really flashed home. Hasn't been talked up as a great run (even though I thought it was), so the odds are still there. With D. Oliver on board, as well as the extra distance, I reckon it's great value to beat the unreliable Thorn Park. Also, look out for True Glo in the Doncaster!
R8. Hassle. Good thing beat last start. Hoping for more today, if it's right it'll win.
Moonee Valley big ones.
MV Oaks- Anyone out there willing to give anything a hope of beating Special Harmony. Not I, she'll win by panels.
Australia Stakes - I really like the form of Titanic Jack in this, however it's shortening by the minute and looks to have overtaken regimental gal as favourite. Depending on the price I'll be on TJ, I think it'll win well. Also, look out for Titanic Jack for the Doncaster (he and True Glo to quinella it!)
Alistar Clark- Not much of a betting race- Confectioner to win.
All in all a very good day's racing, and I'm looking forward to putting some bets on early and then sitting down and watching this and the cricket this afternoon.
