To much pressure on Judd?

yes, i agree, there is alot for him to live up to now.
But what else did you expect the marketing department to do? For new people buying memberships this year, the selling point is that Chris Judd is at Carlton, so having his face on everyting is only natural.

No - He is no longer the captain of a team that has players crashing cars, punching on with eac other, fending off numerous drug allegations.

I think his life at the Blues is a piece of cake.

Are the carlton football club putting to much pressure on Chris Judd, I think so, he is now the face of the club and he hasn't even played a game yet. What do u think???

Actually he's played 134 games (7th highest on our list) and it's not like he's some 18yo #1 draft pick who has no idea what AFL or the associated limelight is like.

He was the face of WCE and now he's the face of Carlton, it was always going to be that way, it shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone.

I wouldn't have thought so. He's done a couple of press confernces, had a chat with Ian Coutts for cfc-tv, and is one of the faces on the Carlton membership launch. That's not overboard I wouldn't have thought.

Plus, being the "boom recruit", he would've expected as much. Once the season starts, he'll just be another player on the list.

In his recent interview on CFC TV he said "We finished down the bottom this year"..........he has taken on the responsibility for lifting this club up. He wants that challenge, he wants that legend status, he craves it as much as he may look shy in front of the Cameras.........in reality, there is only one place he'd rather be than at that press conference today, and that's out on the field..........mmmm come to think of it there might be two places he'd rather be.;)

He would expect the way the media and the club are using him, and if he didn't then he didn't give it much thought.
I'd expect the biggest pressure is actually coming from himself.

Well, considering he will be chewing up alot, if not all, our marketing allowance which is like 400k. This is money out of the cap (I think), and it has to be earnt. In saying that, Judd used to do most of this stuff at the eagles and now does it at a real Club. If anything, he's loving it.

Judd clearly thrives on pressure. Big games and big occassions are when he delivers his best. The hallmark of a champion.

Exactly. Pressure is the prime reason why Judd is a Carlton player. In his first statement after the trade was finalised, he said one of the biggest reasons for coming was to be a part of the regular big games at the MCG - Carlton vs Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond. He thrives in finals - has he ever had a bad finals game? Even this year, when he was playing on 1 leg, he stepped up a notch or two in the finals and had an impact.

Judd is playing for Carlton because he wants a new challenge. And we're going to pressure him all we can because thats what he wants. He eats up the pressure and makes it his incentive to perform. And he's got 1.2 million reasons a year to perform, or Carlton fans might start getting little tetchy...

He's the best player on our list and a proven performer at the highest level. he is experienced in front of the media and generally good to look at, particlarly when Twigley is around.

He's about as good a focus for our club and our list as we can possibly have right now.

When you are going to be paid in excess of a million a year for five years you have to expect that the club is going to want to mik your profile and the excitment that his recruitment has created for all it is worth. No dounb his contract incudes a marketing element, so him being oparaded around this time of year is par for the course and goes with the territory. Judd comes across as extremely level headed and seems to take all the hoopl in his stride and with a pinch of the salt.... Elite sportsmen of Judds ilk don't feel pressure from external influences such as the media, the only pressure they feel and thrive on is the pressure and expectation they place on themselves to perform at the highest level, and Juddy has handled that pretty well so far in his career.....

My only view is on the Captaincy. IMHO, there are 2 Types of ELITE players:

Type 1)- Great players who simply need freedom to do their own thing. These players are often sublimely skilled and thrive when they are allowed to focus solely on their own skills, fitness and overall game; and not have to worry about motivating the rest of the team.

Most players start off like this, and that is why I believe Pagan was mistaken in putting Gibbs into the leadership group. This was unnecessary pressure that no first-year player needs. (Most players in their first year want to focus on getting a game in the senior list, NOT worrying about helping and leading the group!)

People I would class under this group? Kerr, Fevola, Franklin, and other 'young' players who maybe one day will mature and be able to take pressure of captaincy.......but not just yet...

Type 2)- These guys are often more mature, however not always. Sometimes players just thrive when given positions of responsibility. These players aren't necessarily 'better' than Type 1's, just that they handle the pressure of leadership as a positive incentive which aids their consistency; whereas Type 1 players see the pressure as a negative 'addition' to their worries.

I'm still not sure what Judd is. He performed extraordinarily as Captain in '06, which clearly shows he handles pressure well; however maybe that's just because he's so freakin' awesome? I would rather him be put into the leadership group, maybe VC, but putting him as Captain is a huge pressure as a first-year player for a new club.

Thanks for reading... :thumbsu:

I think yes there are expectations on him, deservedly so, but i tend to agree i would like for the club to tone down on everything Chris Judd (but in terms of membership i can see where they're comin from), i get the feeling he just wants to get on with pre season training and he's becoming a little sick of all the press coverage, i for one would like to see more of Murph, Gibbs, Walks, Fev and Stevo.
