We don't need posters unaffiliated and unlikely to ever be affiliated with the competition getting 10 PM's about something that they aren't going to be interested in.

So those recruiting will continue to steal from the inside and rid some clubs of their entire playing stock, which should keep IMS largely unhappy.

Those recruiting should probably look to develop the players that had expressed interest in playing in the competition by signing up on their team's list in the first place rather than annoying members of the site that have no interest in doing so.

To be fair, there aren't a hell of a lot of potential players that put there name forward in the sign up thread, and moreso how are respective recruiters supposed to know in advance whether or not a prospective player they wish to recruit are interested without first asking them via PM.

Sure.

We should totes only go for existing players and even if we think we eventually own them we may not a few days later.

Seems like an overreaction on MWNN's part. Then again, if he was familiar with the fella messaging him, maybe he wouldn't feel compelled to report it.

So "don't recruit strangers" is the lesson here.

I just grabbed North mod B Tron through a PM campaign and I am certain he is an EKA guarantee.

This thread is sillies.

Yeah that PM was so annoying, leave me alone! ;)

All it takes is a simple no from people, it isn't that big a deal.

No means "no."
Hence why you should take respective recruits out to sea and do all of your recruiting on a boat. Then they won't say "no", because of the implication.

Just PM people you're familiar with that would ultimately enjoy the league.

If you go for strangers/randoms, more often than not they'll think you're an idiotic salesman in the same vein as the dude from The Simpsons.

Two PM's from people I'd never heard of, talking about something I'd never heard of, had no idea about and have absolutely no interest in on a board I'd never seen. Probably not the smartest recruiting attempt I've seen.

Also not sure I used the word "never" enough.

What exactly did they say?

Why do you have no name?

It's a shame he doesn't want to join, finally we could have a no name win the EKA...

Do you believe in Dragons?

What about whatshisname that won it last season?

No seriously, who won it last season?

To further titillate your lowbrow amusement, I believe there was once a Sweet FA player named "whatshisname" ::footy:

Here's some further points of a salient nature :
- Tarks is also very correct in his request for "tact". When sussing out someone's interest, do so with humility. Don't spam them, browbeat them, or do anything that feels like you've increted yourself into their personal space. The less of a rapport you have with a potential recruit, the more apologetic you should be for encroaching upon their time.
- On the other hand, this isn't a leeching parasite of the site, it's an integral part :
This stuff is the reason I started this site.
- And to follow on from that, it is always worth considering having Chief pop up an ad for the new season of the Sweet FA in his notification thingies up top of page. He's been happy to do it for our Grand Final weeks before. You would need to formulate the look of the promo for him, to smooth out his workload on the venture.
- A while back, ClarkeM created a set of promo threads, one in each team board. They were bumped for at least one future season. This stepped on no toes and was a worthy method of getting the competition out there. They should be accessed and bumped once more.
- Claypigeon can fill you in on other means utilised to recruit ;)

Don't PM someone in a recruiting attempt if they don't have a clue who you are.

Seems pretty straightforward.

Quite a few of us came here after a PM from someone whom we did not know, having not known this forum existed due to a thing called faith and an open mind. By the above logic, straightforward as it is, I should not be here either then, so I can't say that I agree with it.

Seems coincidental in nature going by the thread Tarks linked to and the mans post in here, 2 from "people" (ie more than 1 person) in a day is hardy a barrage or a fort being stormed by spam. It may be entirely irritable for the individual, they may have zero interest at all, but are we really at the stage where there's trepidation speaking to people you don't otherwise converse with on the off chance they get pissy and contact the admins for a resolution?

Seems a bit counter-intuitive to a forums nature don't you think?

The nature of forums is to subcategorise conversations by various tiers of subject matter, where members can peruse at their leisure and choose what they wish to get involved in based on a scan they have control over, not to weather solicitations.

To be fair, I kept saying no, to the Hawks, to the Demons, to the Gumbies, to the Dragons, until I was finally worn down and succumb to the Royals. There's a lot to be said for peer pressure and spam.
