Todd Elton

bump.

Interesting in Tim Clarke's review of his year he said: “It’s a big year for him in 2014. He’s going to have to stand up and play some good football in order for him to stay on the list.” Harsh?
Sounds harsh, but who else would know better about how he's traveling? Was surprised to read that though.

Probably fair. He's done enough to earn another year (hence why his contract was extended), but he'll need to show something next to year to earn another extension.

Bit harsh, when you look at how much time we invested into McGuane, Post and Griffiths before Todd. He is coming into his third season and has shown some very good signs at VFL level, however, with McBean on the list, and our squad getting more and more competitive, Elton has become a victim of it, rightly or wrongly, it just goes to show the depth of the current squad.

I'd like to see Elton be given another couple of years as I think he has the ability to become a very good AFL player.

Benny got thrown under bus by virtue of the side being absolute filth when he started.
Straight to CHF for the toughest initiation you could ask for. Bloody good hands though.
Elton's a funny one for me. First two games I seem him play I thought wow there is something there with a terrific set of hands. The 4-5 other times I've seen him he has left me completely underwhelmed to the point that I've gone dead cold on him.
Hopefully he comes on.

Different players respond to different forms of encouragement, and the coaches probably know which buttons to push with each of them.

If they keep a player on the list, they think he's a chance of coming good.

Whatever else they say is for motivation.

Saw that bit about Elton this morning too - I'm guessing they are just saying that to try and put a bit of pressure on him to have a big 2014 - either way, I can see the club giving him another year at the end of 2014 (whether to reward improved form or to give him another chance to make it). Being a relatively high draft pick (mid 20s?), the club will give him time.

I do struggle to see where elton fits in our lineup, we have no aging KPF's he can leapfrog with jack and TV 25 and 23 respectively leaves him as a possible third tall. Dont see that in richmonds plan as they just picked up hampson for that role short term and see McBean as 2nd or third tall long term.

Then there's defence, watched elton play U18's and VFL and by far his best atribute is his marking ( like clamps his hands) anyway i feel this'd be underutilized as a defender though he has a defenders kick - and if you ask me not a tremendous amount of penetration on them either.

Great closing speed is great for a defende to obvisouly affect the contest and quick off the mark but even at 197cm still gets pushed off little easy so we need to bulk up to take on the gorillas he'd be pitched against.

Long term i see him best utillised as a forward but we're never gonna trade jack (even if he pulls a heath shaw and rages on field - which is very possible) TV has strong ties to the club with his dad working there and McBean most likely coming thorugh for some games next season i dont see him getting his opportunity unless one of the forwards succumb's to injury.

As a defender which is what he'll be forced to do if he stays with the RFC i thnk if he put on a few kegs he strikes me as a faster Daniel Talia

Just my thoughts

Astbury , Griffiths , Elton , McBean , They will all get their chance to show what they have

1 out of Ast,Grif,Elton will be traded/delisted end of next year

Favourite atm is Griffiths to be gone

Looked way better at CHB than CHF this year. In fact I would go so far as to say he was awful at CHF. But I will defend that by saying that it was pretty tough to play in the forward line at Coburg due to the poor quality of ball coming in. As an example of this I will use McBean. Even though he kicked alot of goals many of these were crumbing goals/not lace out paces on his chest. But much like Griffiths, even though such a big man, gets pushed around way too easily.

Well if McBean crumbs his own ball, it'll save having a small forward'

Seriously tho, he would change the fwd structure somewhat, because we have no other like him. But then Aa.Edwards is a bit unique on our list as well.

A few injuries to talls this year could change things. We've been pretty lucky with injuries this year. Imagine if Riewoldt and Rance went down to injuries next year.

Yep, would love to see him focus on KP defence still - work on his strength and determination, and he could be that tall Lonergan-type option in defence that can help out in games against teams with the ruck/forwards etc. Have Griff, McBean be the forward back-ups, Elton and a promoted Darou as developing defenders, and Astbury the swingman.

Todd will be a gun Black at North has taken time but I can assure you all he as Griffiths and Mc Bean will all be Future Richmond greats actually how is this for a tall fast midfield Elton Martin Griffiths

If Astbury doen't improve his perceived movement, eg. slowness etc.. he will be moved on regardless of the others IMO
