Agree 8-20 would be about right, the Petrie comparison

As a tall forward Elton is like "hens teeth" in this years draft. While he may take time to develop, it would be hard to think most AFL clubs would not like him on their list.

At the moment there are a few clubs with a big need for a big forward.

Came good at the right time of the year, putting together a couple of BOGs for Dandenong against Bendigo and Calder.

8-20 is the right range, and he will battle with Billy Longer, Leif Cope or possibly Cameron Tudor (as an outside smokey), for the top ruckman drafted. His ability to go forward might see him jump Longer.

Definitely the kind of person you want around the club as well, he is a tip-top bloke with the right demeanour to take on the footy world.

Pick 9 or 11 would be when I see GWS investing in their first ruckman, the same as what Gold Coast did with Gorringe. Elton/Patton would be a formidable forward line in years to come if it came to fruition.

If he's overlooked for GWS, he'd slide into most teams as a third-fourth ruckman.

I hope this guy is still around with Carlton's 1st pick. Sounds exactly like what we need.

Do we need Elton if he's an undersized ruckman/tall utility like James Sellar and Patrick McCarthy?

Elton won't get a game ahead of Kreuzer, Hampson and Warnock who are giants.

With Hudson gone, the Dogs might take Elton to complement Cordy and Roughead as their resting ruckman.

Wouldn't play him as a ruckman, would play him as a key forward.

He can play CHB. Some prefer him playing there.

Ratten said that Hampson will be trained up to play forward like Walker who has similar athletic tools. Another ruck/forward could be handy if that works, but I'm uncertain that we need to go tall again. Get the best available this year. We need another mid or two.

GWS 'reject' lifts his game
Elton is 18, and a better player now than seven months ago. At the Stingrays, he has spent the season in the ruck, learning how to play forward and back. He's learnt to clunk marks, he's overcome osteitis pubis, runs and lunges to make second and third efforts when he doesn't take the mark and is athletic enough to even spend time on a wing.

To improve in every area, said Elton, was the goal when GWS told him he wasn't ready. ''They told me they wanted me to work on my strength and that they didn't have enough footage of me playing forward and down back, so that's been what I've been concentrating on this year, to do more of that,'' he said. ''It was good to know that they were looking at me and that I was in the mix, so even though I missed out on it I didn't take it too badly.''
