How is Nic Nat "certainly better" than Goldy? Nic Nat had a good year in 2012 but Goldy has out performed him for at least the last 3 years.

You do realise that Naitanui was just as good or arguably better when he played in 2016, and was the #2 ruck in the league in 2015, along with being very good in 2011, 2013 and 2014 when he played, too?

This myth of "one good season" for Naitanui is complete bullshit.

I agree. But coaching/recruiting staff have made stranger decisions before. For your sake i think you need to trade goldy to avoid pruess leaving. Hes a gun

Mmmmm yeah but given his 4 game?? Exposure. I cant imagine anyone will offer a top 5 pick for him.
It's an opinion, just that.

Any thought to the Roos playing Goldstein as a forward/ruck in 2018, and having either Preuss or Daw as the #1? He's shown at times in the past that he can be a handful up forward (two bags of 5 during his career), and he's still solid enough for a relief ruck role. Might be worth exploring, considering teams aren't really going to give up much for an ageing ruckman with so many miles on the clock.

Did it a few times earlier in the year a few times. It worked ok but Goldy likes playing as #1 ruck for 80%+ game time.

Issue is that he turns 30 next year and we have Daw, Larkey and McKay on the list, plus Durdin who could go forward.

We need to be blooding young KPFs who will be around for the next decade so we might as well cash in on Goldy while we can.

I think North should trial his height at full forward and see if they can still make something of him. Otherwise in a rebuilding side, Preuss is the wisest choice for ruck.

He played at full forward for half the match last week in order to give Daw a run and to provide cover for Brown..

His mobility is one of his biggest assets, so I don't think full forward would suit him very well. He's a ruckman.

Besides, our full forward spot is stitched up for several years. No one is taking it off Brown.

If North Melbourne can get anything in the first round for him or something equivalent then ship him off.
Make Preuss the number one ruckman.
If no good trade offers than hold him.

Everyone is available
At ridiculous overs maybe. Pies and Blues have rarely lost stars they didn't want to. Probably only big name Pies lost was Beams due to go home factor. Carlton Eddie Betts was go home factor to Adelaide and Josh Kennedy was part of the Judd deal.

It's not overs if that's what it takes to get them. Getting Grundy would be fantastic. Kreuzer free agent

Goldstein getting to can't bat can't bowl territory. Would rather chase someone unproven but in the right age bracket. He's one of those players that's worth more to their current club than any other. Yet even their supporters want to get rid of him

Nah, North have great ruck options at the moment, both Preuss and Daw would be number 1 rucks at quite a few clubs. Someone will give us an early 2nd, we'll pay part of his salary and it'll work out for all involved. Desperately needs a fresh start imo, has had a tough few years on and off the field but he still has all the skill and shows it at times, is just well down on confidence atm.

North are in a pickle...

They need to keep Goldstein's trade value up, they have to play him.
We should never had dropped Preuss and played him and Goldstein together. Insane that we've got Daw for another two seasons. He's not an AFL footballer.

I think you'd get more than that if you're paying his salary. Deserve more. He's been a great player and no doubt you're right

Personal opinion

Well it's not like they are going to miss out on finals by playing him, might as well keep him in the shop window so to speak and give Preuss a crack at it next year

The Daw thing is obvious, he just isn't up to it.

Goldstein is a star, he's carried an injury for a while now but you can't drop him - you would want a top 20 pick minimum for him. Even top 20 sounds to me you are losing value on him, people forget how good he was.

I'd play Preuss the rest of the year. 6 weeks experience now might not make the difference this year but it certainly might in the future

Look at how much Essendon's kids have benefited from having a year at it

Your opinion is better balanced that half the people on our board.

We only have 3 ruckmen on our entire list, and they are all contracted beyond this year, so I can't see us trading out any of them.

If anything we need to add another ruckman to our list.

Preuss has been injured. He may not even be fit to play this week in the VFL.

Alternatively 6 week of Goldstein playing might make a difference between snagging a late first round pick to something a lot lower by leaving him out.

It's a double edged sword.

He hasn't looked injured at all this year. I think he's just slowing down. He doesn't fit our age profile and Preuss is the best ruckman not playing AFL in the country.
Losing value would be holding onto him for another year and then trading him for pick 70 to be depth for a contender.

Can't see Goldstein agreeing to leave unless it is to a contending side or near contender.

That rules out a number of clubs, but I reckon st Kilda is a dark horse. Longer is ok but Goldstein is a huge upgrade. Hickey?.... Yeah look just watch last week.

Obviously depends on other trades, but:
st kildas first rounder (9-12ish)

For Goldstein and north 2nd rounder (20-22ish)
