We could do a lot worse than Todd Viney

He was a great player but I am not sure about his coaching ability.

If Craigy thinks he is the right person for the job, its good enough for me :thumbsu:

In a nutshell, exactly right. :thumbsu:

Would fit in well with Adelaide, he has a bit of background in fitness doesnt he?

Yeah he does, remember he quit playing for Melbourne in the late 1990’s to take up a coaching appointment with Mark Philippoussis

I think our target should be somebody with match-day ability.

There was some enthusiasm on the board to having an assistant coach with skills from other sports.....well an international coaching background would have some value?

He knows the Sth Aust system, I think I'm correct in that he was a team mate of Craigs at Sturt......and whether he can coach?....well I'm with Stiffy, if Craig supports and believes in him, so will I

What about that red-headed chap floating around?

What's his name again? something Hart?

We need a mids coach mate.

Viney was one tough MowFoe on the ground - an onballer at that - and basically had the G&D to hold the Demon MF together while they went through some tough times.

He also has a physiotherapy / Phys. Ed / Sports Science / Teacher background IIRC.... - which would be an attractive feature.

I think I like the idea.....:thumbsu:

He actually beat Boris Becker once in a junior tennis tournament.

Just a little snippet on Viney

"Todd Viney
Todd Viney, 39, joined the Hawks’ coaching panel at the end of the 2004 season after two years coaching Moama in the Murray League. Viney played 233 AFL games for Melbourne during a distinguished career that spanned 13 seasons. Raised in South Australia, Viney was a junior tennis star before switching to AFL. He caught the eye of Demon recruiters while playing for Sturt in the SANFL. A member of Melbourne’s losing 1988 Grand Final side, Viney won the Demons’ best and fairest in 1993 and 1998 and captained the club in 1998 and ‘99. In 1996 Viney left Melbourne to take up a position as fitness coach with Australian tennis player Mark Philippoussis. His sabbatical was short-lived and he returned to the Demons. He retired from Melbourne in 1999."

Viney sounds good, true.

What about Bicks? It'd be a punt, would it be worth it? Or is he too busy with other commitments?

I'd love to have Bicks, but he wouldnt want to bail out of the media I wouldnt have thought.

I'm sold :thumbsu:

Interesting thought. do you think he would be interested? he has a lot of media commitments, which would be a lot easier and probably pay a lot more than being an assistant coach at an AFL Club.

I like the idea though........

Maybe we can bring back Blighty as an assitant coach... :thumbsu:

We dont need somebody who has a big fitness background blah blah, we already have crasig and walsh for that aspect. Like JM said we need someone whos good on match day, this is craig's BIG downfall and it costs us games. Obviously we wont find someone as good as Blighty who was just a freak, but we need someone who knows what to change in certain situations.
