Very very impressed with him tonight. Took a couple of grabs and was good in the ruck. Also kicked a goal despite me saying to my mate that he'll shank it.

I'm hoping we keep developing him as a number 2 ruckman at Essendon. Make sense to play him against fellow young ruckman.

With Hille and Ryder in the side, my next wish is to see Laycock with delisted next to his name at seasons end.

And you may get your wish.

I hope this lights a fire cracker under Laycock, I really do. However he just doesn't look the goods and a young fella has just come in and put his hand up.

Spot on :thumbsu: He reminds me a lot of a young Luke Darcy. Ryder's leaps at centre bounces were breathtaking. He nearly jumped over the opposing ruckman several times.

we have two types of Ruck man, the agile tap Simon Madden type that add value in the sense that they can tap to advantage about 30 + % of the time and add heaps more round the ground kicking goals, playing like midfielders tackling, running and carrying. Then you have the other type that makes a contest, takes an occasional mark & is slow around ground but can take a mark and kick and occasional mark. The best ruck man fall into the first category - think COX, Mcintosh HIlle last year, Jolly & RYDER.

Tommy is the later type, almost always makes a contest and puts his body on the line.
I think that this RYDER & BELLCHAMBERS combo is not bad.. Ryder is more talented than the lot. Hille is the Best without doubt, but some how I dont think that Laycock ( perhaps more talented than Hille) put in the kind of efforts he should have.

Todays Combo should stay in place all year, even if Laycock can get fit - unless Laycock over comes his mysterious injuries gets fit, tears it up in the 2's and belts some one ( preferably not a Bendigo player). Then and only then can he come back.
Either way, bombers would be better off, especially with Tommy Bell getting more games into him. If Laycock can discover his inner Rambo, then he can come back into the team towards the end of the year ( of if Ryder or Belly is injured )..

No offence to Bellchambers, because he's had a decent game and is still young. But Laycock is a far far better player at this point in time. If he can get serious about his fotty he'll be a great ruckman.

People should be hoping that Laycock gets fit and gets down to business of showing his potential, not get delisted. It gives us a far more quality list.

I think that Bellchambers may play a stop gap role in the next week.

He will play in the team if we come across two strong ruckman.

He is a chance to play if King ( StKilda ) is over his injury - but is more than likely that one of Daniher or Hurley will return this week - releasing Hooker to be the second ruckman.

he's out for 3-4

He played well. I thought both our rucks did. Team did well to force Roughie into the ruck and backline at one point.

If Ryder can continue this form in the ruck and Bellchambers has the year to develop (how long is Laycock out for?) i think it may end Laycocks time at Essendon, unless we start using him as a forward.

I thought he played well, took a great grab and kicked a goal. Did ok in the ruck, so i hope he doesnt get dropped

Yeah it would be good to release Hooker in the Ruck as like Ryder appears to have the athletisicm to really make an impact round the ground and can act like an extra mid

Took a good mark and converted. He showed more last night that I had given him credit for so good luck to him :thumbsu:

I don't like his ruck work though, which is a problem given that he is a ruckman. Yes he is young and raw but he just doesn't look natural.

He was probably good enough to stay in the team in the role he played last night.

No-one should be surprised. The last couple of games last year and the pre-season comp showed he could make a decent contribution. Much more value to the side than Hooker playing as a ruckman.

Bellchambers is 4-5 years off being a premier ruckman in the competition.

Jason Laycock, as maligned as he is, is extremely talented. He was not picked up in the first round of a draft for nothing! If he gets his body right I would have Laycock over Bellchambers IF his workrate warrants the call-up.

I think our running game is better suited without a lumbering ruckman to play the majority of a game from the ruck, I'd have David Hille play 50% at full forward switching with Ryder.

The most important player to our future can't get on the field, Gumbleton. :(

You're getting carried away; he has ability but is not extremely talented, far from it. 7 Years at EFC and has cost the club over $2m. Not a great ROI.

Hille didn't start to become decent until he was 25, Laycock is 24.

From a purely rucking perspective, Hille is overrated and from an ability point of view, Laycock is superior to Hille. Hille struggles to get off the ground, Laycock has a decent leap.
