Hille didn't start to become decent until he was 25, Laycock is 24.

From a purely rucking perspective, Hille is overrated and from an ability point of view, Laycock is superior to Hille. Hille struggles to get off the ground, Laycock has a decent leap.

You're also forgetting that Hille had shown gradual improvement whereas Laycock hadn't shown any before he was injured.

7 years at the club is long enough for such a lazy footballer. He even has admitted that what he reads about himself in the press affects him. If he's anywhere near this thread, it will only cause him more angst. Needs to join Johns in the WAFL is he is to have any chance of returning as a decent footballer.

I'l prefer not to have another Somervlle on our hands.

I agree with The_Donners, Laycock has more natural talent than Hille. It's just a shame that while Hille strives to get the best out of himself and his team, Laycock is the most lazy, undisciplined player on our list. Really needs to pull his finger out.

You're probably right but I tend to regard intrinsic motivation as a kind of talent in itself. Someone with physical ability but whom also finds it very hard to push themselves probably isn't very talented in a broader sense, if that makes sense? I think a lot of people would regard motivation/drive as distinct from talent. Sure, external factors can have a big effect but at the end of the day it's the ability of a person to allow himself to be motivated. Just a different way of looking at it... :)

For mine, Hooker down back is solid as a rock, fantastic composure in traffic and great second efforts once the ball hit the deck. I'd say leave him down back and keep Bellchambers in the side to play 2nd Ruck.

Let Hurley develope in the Bendigo side for a few more weeks.

I agree with this also.

With age comes maturity. There is a certain player on our list that started out at a similar time and who just pipped Laycock for the '05 ANZAC Day medal. Until this season hadn't provided any consistency and was also dogged by external factors, exhibt A: Andrew Lovett.

Yeah, fair point. James Hird had an abundance of that 'talent', too.
