Big test this weekend, if he can hold his own, great confidence boost.

If there's even a hint of an issue with his foot still, I wouldn't play him. Running around on a dud foot for a bloke who's 200+cm 100-odd kgs isn't smart to begin with, but on the expanses of Subi against two very good and athletic rucks would be a severe confidence-killer IMO.

Stanley can cover the athleticism, and Billy Longer to debut for grunt in that case.

Currently down as "test". His foot doesn't look like a major issue but I hope that we play it safe if there is any doubts.

Heartily concur, particularly given that we're (righty) rank outsiders this weekend. Not to suggest that we ought not view an upset as impossible, rather that we shouldn't take risks with players at the expense of more realistic upsets that I'm sure we'll manage throughout the season. Hopefully giving the doom saying "wooden spoon" pundits something to consider.

Roo didn't play for a while and we were all raving over Kosi being a gun.
Then Roo came along and WOW! 14 years later and WOW!

I hope this is how we think about Longer when he comes on too.
Except that it remains WOW! with both of them for the next 10 years!

I agree about Hickey and Longer..... but Nick got 3 disposals in his first game, and didn't really start doing much for another season.
So maybe it was a slow wow.

ST KILDA ruckman Tom Hickey has travelled to London to have his knee assessed by a leading medical specialist.

Hickey will visit Swedish surgeon Prof. Hakan Alfredson, one of the world’s leading patella tendon specialists to assess recurring irritation to his right knee.

Hickey has been suffering from knee tendonitis throughout 2014 and was assessed by a local specialist before the decision was made to send him to the UK to consult with Prof. Alfredson who has previously treated other AFL players such as Jonathon Patton from GWS and Steven Motlop from Geelong.

A decision is yet to be made as to whether Hickey will require surgery.

Hickey played six games this season for a total of 18 since crossing from Gold Coast at the end of 2012.

"We did seek some opinions here (in Melbourne), which were really helpful, but we've chosen to go over there to see one of the people we deem as one of the world's leading experts," Club Physio Andrew Wallis told SAINTS.com.au.
