Don't think I've seen a player for us polarise opinions as much as Young!

It's because 50% of supporters expect immediate results, and 50% are patient enough to see how a player develops. Personally I think for a 19 year old, he's developing fantastically.

Years ago, I never thought Ben Reid would last and thought he was a complete muppet during his first games.

I never try and judge a player early in their career anymore.

I shouldn't, but i do! I have a long list of players i got wrong (Toovey and L Brown on top). I used to headbutt walls when Toovey would turn it over, now i love him.

Big year for Tom, needs to find another level, I like the tagging idea

His a pretty strong lad for a 19 year old so a tagging role wouldn't be out of question, the question would be asked about his tank?

Never thought much of Dane Swan at the start either honestly. He goes alright now. :)

I am in the same boat about Swannie

But I look at Tom Young and I am glad he does not wear number 22

harsh but gee all I think of is yep Jason Wild but a bit taller

hey I was wrong with Swannie so I hope I do it again

I think Swan at the same age had more upside.

Tom has to many brain farts during games.

He does move bit like Swan but I agree what you say he has too many brain farts and turns the ball over too much

Young is a very good player for 19... just mentally his all over the place. which is why there are such conflicting opinions. His a choker and has regular brain fades, thats why i dont want to see him in the team, i've been converted from a lover to the other side recently. Players like him and buckley have every tool to make it, except their not there mentally which is crucial. Young would be a liability in a final imo.

I like him. Good size and strength. Has some evasiveness which suggests awareness. Attacks the footy. Knows how to use his body. Knows where to go to get the footy. Basic skills appear to be sound. I see him developing into a very solid midfielder or half back.

The same blokes who are writing him off would have written off the likes of Swan, Matthew Boyd, Priddis, and Jobe Watson at the beginning of their careers.

Tom Young is likely to get games early rather than risk players without match practice and fitness. He has no left foot ... is this true? Can't say I have watched him much at senior level, but he does not seem out of place in the NAB cup games. A game against the Hawks would certainly test his worth and he must be on track for a spot in the side.

I really liked Tom youngs 1st game at afl level against Brisbane. I am not sure how his nab cup has gone, but the key is he is entering his 3rd year at pies from a nsw background. Believe me, living in syd, it is tough as a kid/teen wanting to play Aussie rules in syd. I have very high hopes for young. He is a lot better than Simon Buckley

Swan played like trash in a number of his early senior appearances. I was actually really pleased with Young's debut last year for the seniors.
Swan showed quite a bit in a few early games. I don't recall any trash. Swan's problem as attitute early as it was when he was a junior. Ability to play the game was never in question. The intabgible of making the right decisions at the right time is what seperates players and makes premierships.
