I'm thinking they'll hold Tom Hawkins off to the finals, and then unleash him in a big way. I've seen him a bit in the VFL, and although his stats aren't anything brilliant, it would be safe to say the GFC has been playing him way out of position. I would say that they are giving him game time in the ruck, and across the flanks merely to run some fitness into him. Come the first final, they'll bring him back in... All the clubs that think they have our gameplan worked out will be destroyed by the big battering ram.

yes, if injuries permit he will be used...

he is almost certainly being used sparingly to save him for the last 1/4 of the year.

They wont wait to the finals though...they will bring him in Rd18-20 if at all...

If team balance permits he will be one hell of a weapon, especially because I suspect he has used most of the season getting fit, rather than burning himself out going hell for leather in games.

lets not overate the tomahawk he has skills and i think he will play more senior footy soon but to sit back and think he is a finals secret weapon. is a bit of a pipedream.that said i think he will kick a bag of goals for us one day soon every time i watch him i get that feeling.

hawkins is struggling, i doubt they will bring him back unless his form picks up. doubt thommo would want to load his forward line with too many tall

Spot on. If they're considering bringing him back for finals football, he'll need to get a few AFL games under his belt in a row before finals. We all know that it steps up a cog for finals, and if he's not used to home and away conditions, then he'll get lost in finals.

Wow - Some sense from a Richmond supporter.

Hawkings is good and will be great for a number of years, however to beleive a 18 year old guy, playing his first season will be the difference come final times is laughable.

I wonder how much he is paying for the Brownlow?

there is no magical theory behind him not playing seniors. He simply isn't good enough to break into the squad. He will only be playing finals footy if we are struck down with some key forward injuries (knock on wood).

The bloke will be a champ but not this year.

I think that Hawkins, despite his lack of experience, fitness and 'form' at reserves level, would actually make the senior forward line much more dangerous. The kid would take at the very least a good defender, and has shown, like Joel Selwood, that he can do special things that others cannot. Try defending against three talls like Mooney, NAblett, and Hawkins - plus Ottens in bursts.

But I can understand the argument that we might be too tall. Also, having so many talls up forwards (and back) means that we would be a runner short. Still, it's a good problem to have. Exciting times:D

Can't have to many talls in the forward line. One of the reasons we have been good this year is the smaller guys, Varcoe, Stokes, Johnson, have been able to keep the ball in the forward line and put pressure on defenders trying to run the ball out.

Whilst a lot of talls might sound reasonable it does effect the balance.

IMO Hawkins will only come in if both his form warrants it and the team balance is not effected, or if an injury occurs. Will be a great player but need to give him time.

I don't see how his 'form' is supposed to warrant a call up, when he is being played all over the ground. If he can string a few good games together though, I would suggest bringing him in for NAblett. I am still of the opinion that a few weeks in the VFL would be good for Nath, and the rest might be necessary to have him firing from all cylinders come finals time.
