Who heard Tony Shaw commentating the game on Foxtel yesterday? He has absolutely no idea, & was painful to listen to.

The funniest was his justification of the non-payment of an obvious push in the back free kick to a Crows player (think it was Otten) early in the match. From 2 different angles in slow motion it was pretty clear the umpire made a mistake by not paying it, but no, "great decision by the umpire there!" says Shaw, scrambling to defend his comment.

For the entire 3rd quarter and most of the 4th, he was crapping on about how West Coast needed to go long to their forward line. A couple of times WC did go long, only to have it marked by Otten or Stevens or cleared by Johncock.

When WC got a goal in the final term by going long out of the middle, this seemed to delight Shaw, who then wouldn't shut up about this for the rest of the term, rather than calling the play as it happens.

Why do we keep getting these Foxtel hacks each week? My nightmare dreamtime lineup of hack commentators would be Tony Shaw, Danny Frawley & Dwayne Russell with Ricky Olerenshaw roaming the boundary line. Thank god this isn't possible with the current broadcast rights!

Him and Jakovich spent the whole afternoon talking about West Coast. I loved Jakovich as a player, but you could hear him groaning and sighing whenever Adelaide got clear.

There's no doubt that 5AA (Rowey, Cornesy etc) when they are calling are the most biased in the land, but they don't broadcast to a national audience.
 
Haha yeah I was at the game but had to facepalm when they listed the commentators on the superscreen. Jakovich commentating an Eagles game...gee I wonder who he would have been going for.

What was 10x worse though was the commentators after the Port game, one of them being Alistair Lynch, saying that you just couldn't help but barrack for Brisbane after being so far behind. FFS channel 10 get unbiased ******* commentators!
 
Rowey and Cornesy are absolute ****ing legends.

I don't care what you blokes say, 5AA is the only commentary worth listening to. ****ing love it.

err ... they were both foxtel games
 
We get too many Foxtel games unfortunately, the friday night game we get once a year is generally only one of maybe 3 games a year that make it to FTA commentary teams, same goes for Port.

I don't mind some of them but Shaw is useless and Jaka is a boring twat, how you could justify taking your eye of the ball and not putting your hands up tp pretend you are going for it then dipping your shoulder and charging into Hentsch isn't in the back because he 'tried to pull up' i laughable, particularly given what porps got pinged for 15 secs earlier.

That was a Foxtel telecast too, but what do you expect when you have a 3 time Premiership hero calling a game in which his old side is playing in? Then you had Dunstall who is a parochial QLD'er. McAvaney used to be criticised when he commentated Crows games when we came in too, imagine if they let Stephen Rowe on the TV?

They wouldnt let Rowe commentate Crows games. I find it strange this argument that people raise in regards to 5aa calling crows games and how bias it is. Whilst this is true, they only broadcast into Adelaide. When I went to Subi a few years ago and had their 6pr commentary on the radio on the bias was incredible. But while irritating I had no issues as it was only broadcast to a Perth audience.
 
Although Shaw was tiresome to listen to, I take his point that kicking to a fifty-fifty in the forward line is not really a fifty-fifty, because you'll kick it to the advantage of your own forward.

I think we could have done a bit more of that, rather than faffing across the ground and back from CHF, giving time for the defenders to close off avenues.

Has no idea about the modern game. Kept banging on about our kick to handball ratio in the first quarter. Well from there the ratio got worse, then when we were dominating the scoreboard all of a sudden our handball was a weapon.

Yep agreed, can't stand Shaw, another Vic who has no knowledge of our team. Can't for the life of me work out why he refers to us as "Adelaide Crows" every single time he is mentioning team play. We know the full name Shawry, just "Crows" will suffice.

Most interstate commentators and many opposition supporters say the same, probably take a few years until they realise it aint 2005 anymore. :rolleyes:

It was Dunstall who said that not Lynch. Still, Dunstall is a QLD boy.

Foxtel commentators are just rubbish. Dwayne Russell being the obvious exception.
 
they are the foxtel commentators that are always overly biased and the screening just goes through ten brisbane.
