Too many receivers

If you look at the RFC list, the biggest problem we have had and why we have been so embarrassing since 95 is that we recruit one type of player.

Outside receivers.

If we actually had a midfield that got their own ball, we would have a 100 receivers very happy to pummell opposition teams.

Hence a high scoring game will work very well for us if we can get a midfield that can win its own ball.

Good luck to Wallace trying to find enough players on our list who can perform that function.

Tuck and Jackson have potential. Tiny hartigan does too just because he has so much guts. But he is too small and has poor skills. Cogs is a clear winner in this category. Simmonds would be much better in the middle because of strength and athleticism. Nobel might win his share of hit outs, but he gets slaughtered around the groun. Bowden can definitely win his own ball.

But none of these players with the exception of cogs are ideal midfielders?

Maybe we need tambling, kraks and deledio in there now. With their pace they could probably get the ball before opposition teams even know it has been bounced. I dont see a better alternative. I would love people here to come up with a couple of names of players who they think can hold their own in the middle.

If we cant find a midfield that can hold their own, we will be wooden spooners again.

The midfield won't be right until our draftees from the last two years are developed and can play every week. We definitely have too many receivers, and too many poor users of the ball. Someone like Chris Hyde shouldn't be in a sides top 3 midfielders, but that's where we are at right now. He is in our best three because he tries his guts out, and more than anyone on our team he sticks to the gameplan. We will be a much better side when someone like Chris is a 6th or 7th choice midfielder though.
