I was thinking of the top 5 performed players each year, from 2000.

I've struggled with 00, 01, 02, and 03 due to my memory not being the best, I'm looking for some help filling those in, but I'm very comfertable with the players and order from 2004 onwards.

2000
1. Anthony Koutafides
2. Wayne Carey
3. James Hird
4. Matthew Lloyd
5. Nathan Buckley

2001
1. Andrew McLeod
2. Jason Akermanis
3. Ben Cousins
4. Matthew Lloyd
5. Michael Voss

2002
1. Michael Voss
2. Simon Black
3. Luke Darcy
4. Shane Crawford
5. Ben Cousins

2003
1. Nathan Buckley
2. Mark Ricciuto
3. Adam Goodes
4. James Hird
5. Warren Tredrea

2004
1. Warren Tredrea
2. Chris Judd
3. Matthew Scarlett
4. Nick Riewoldt
5. Mark Ricciuto

2005
1. Ben Cousins
2. Dean Cox
3. Warren Tredrea
4. Barry Hall
5. Scott West

2006
1. Chris Judd
2. Adam Goodes
3. Barry Hall
4. Brad Johnson
5. Matthew Pavlich

2007
1. Garry Ablett
2. Brent Harvey
3. Jimmy Bartel
4. Jonathan Brown
5. Matthew Pavlich

2008
1. Garry Ablett
2. Lance Franklin
3. Matthew Richardson
4. Brent Harvey
5. Nick Riewoldt

2009
1. Nick Riewoldt
2. Garry Ablett
3. Lenny Hayes
4. Jonathan Brown
5. Corey Enright

2010
1. Dane Swan
2. Garry Ablett
3. Aaron Sandilands
4. Chris Judd
5. Luke Hodge

2011 (so far)
1. Lance Franklin
2. Dean Cox
3. Chris Judd
4. Jobe Watson
5. Marc Murphy

Many guys have been in multiple times, with Ablett and Judd leading at 4 each. The biggest split is Judd, getting in 2004 and 2011.

Would love to hear other opinions.

Kinda funny that the top 5 from 2000 didnt include the Brownlow medalist...shows how undeserving Woewodin was

He was in the top 5 players in 2000, no problems.

Woewoden was never a superstar but he did have an outstanding season in 2000 for a team that made the grand final. People tend to forget that he was about 5th favourite for the brownlow that year, not as big an upset is it is made out to be.

The top 5 in the OP's opinion you mean*

plus, cooney won a brownlow in 2008, how can he not be in the top 5? Was better then Harvey.

FWIW, I had Cooney at 6, but Brent Harvey put in two exceptional years in 07 and 08.

Cooney became less consistant in the second half of 2008. I had him at 6, to be fair, so not far away.

No Wanganeen in 2003? bit harsh, one vote being the 4th drawing winner, came down to a showdown in round 22 if memory serves correct

N Volt in 2004? with no Chad Cornes?

Pav in over Kornes? in 2007?

(course this will be a tad bias towards PAFC)

Tredrea at #1 in 2004 is spot on. He was quite clearly the best player that year and went into the brownlow medal as favourite. Won all the media awards that year and of course the B&F.

Many Port people think he had a better 05 then 04 until he got injured, so #3 in that year is certainly fair :thumbsu:

03 I struggles, could have included any numbber of people that year.

Chad Cornes just outside the top 5 in 2004, along with Lappin. Keep in mind the AFL MVP was Riewoldt in 2004

and Cornes in 07 simply wasn't there. He was good no doubt, but Pav was more deserving

Dane Swan is more like #20 this year. A long way off #5. Had maybe 3 good games at the start of the year, but has gone downhill since due to injury.

He started very well, and I snuck him in at 5, then he had a shocker. He'd be out now.
