I am having (some may say pointless) discussion/argument as to what players are in our top ten this year based on form and games played this year. I have Ottens in this group - my friend disagrees. My list is (in no particular order:

Ablett
Enright
Bartel
Chapman
Milburn
Ottens
Kelly
Ling
Scarlett
Hunt

His list puts the following players ahead of Otto:

Playfair
Cory
S Johnson
Ablett
Enright
Bartel
Chapman
Milburn
Kelly
Ling
Scarlett
Hunt

What do you think?

Malvern,

Your friend is right, Ottens while playing a couple of useful games, has generally been an average player. He is still in the Geelong best 18 but is far from critical to the success fo the team.
I suggest you take more notice of your friend as he seems to have a good grasp of football knowledge.

Based on this year only, I'd go with:
Corey
Milburn
Enright
Ablett
Chapman
Ling
Ottens
Bartel
Hunt
Kelly

Only difference between yours and mine is Corey for Scarlett - surely an oversight, as JC has been at least in our top 3 players so far?

I vehemently disagree.

Brad Ottens is vital to both our structure and our flexibility.
Take him out of the side and suddenly Kent Kingsley gets more attention, Henry Playfair gets more attention, we don't have a true contested marking target and have no back up for Steven King.

Brad Ottens is in our top 5 in terms of importance to our team.

There is no way , I mean NO WAY , based on this years form that Steve Johnson is ahead of Ottens. For a start he has only played half the games.

Debatable
Hunt, Kelly, Ling, Scarlett - these guys have all been patchy but good when on.To me Ottens has been far more consistant than all of them.

The others have all been in our best this year, Im been a bit forgiving with H because of the position he is playing , probably the most influential on the ground

Harsh on Josh there TC.

I agree that Kelly, Ling and Scarlett have been incredibly inconsistent and certainly below their best, but i'm more than happy with Josh Hunt, both in terms of his consistency and overall form.

Yeah , give you that. Apart from a couple of quarters, Im not sure who against now, where he played like the Rainman talks, he has been good. No,very good. I still feel he is a much better set play player than improvising on the fly, he can get a tad rattled but this has been by far his best year. Well within our best 22 but Id still have Ottens ahead of him but...

Yes, agreed, an oversight.

Ling and Kelly are not at their best yet but I still think would have a spot in the top ten - harsh on H but with the everyone pretty much on their game it is hard to fit them all in. Not a bad problem to have.

It's hard to put a value on this things, Ablett has been brilliant in one match, not so great in the rest. Ottens has been pretty good consistently without ever really starring, so for me, I'll take the more consistent players of the year so far approach; in no particular order-

Corey
Enright
Dasher
Ottens
Hunt
Rooke
D Johnson
Bartel
Ling
chapman

Glad to see sleeping with the missus makes it in to Number 3 but would doubt that drink a beer should be as low as four - if this was the price is right I think I would swap 3 & 4 IMO :D

Now for the serious stuff?
My Top Ten in order (IMO)

1/ Corey (still my number one even though he got injured)
2/ Enright (best year since joining cats)
3/ Dash (what more can I say)
4/ Chapman (our most consitent/tough player this year)
5/ Ling (always serviceable)
6/ Bartel (always workman like - could work a bit harder on occasions)
7/ Kelly (flashes in and out IMO - best game of the year v Pies)
8/ Ottens (hampered by poor delivery over last couple of weeks - good year so far)
9/ Ablett (brilliant when on song - but a bit inconsistent IMO)
10/ Kent/Rooke/Hunt (you could raffle any of these for number 10)

Steve Johnson would have made my top 10 had he played all games

Here is the top ten things I wanna do:

1. see Geelong win the flag - me too
2. eat a hot dog - you know it's not real meat?
3. sleep with my missus - I'm free around 5pm if she's interested
4. drink a beer - no thanks
5. go and watch the footy - which game?
6. win lotto - ha! don't we all?
7. watch Henry Rollins Spoken word - oh hang on I am tonight - err, no thanks, I'd rather go and see Star Wars 3 and Batman Returns (still haven't seen them)
8. eat another hot dog - might have chilli sauce on it - did I mention thay're not really meat?
9. ummmm... - mana padme ooommmmm
10. play with my kiddies.- actually, we have common ground- nothing beats spending time with your own offspring

Please take all this in good humour! Just being a tad cheeky! :D
