In principle, the Commission agreed that:

- The EFC may sign temporary playing contracts with any player not currently on an AFL list but who have been on an AFL list in the last two seasons;

- With the exception of their own VFL listed players, EFC is restricted to signing a maximum of two players from any club.

Interestingly only players who played AFL last two years.

The AFL will continue to work with Essendon and the AFLPA to ensure appropriate terms and conditions for the temporary players including minimum payments and provisions for injury, insurance and medical.
The Commission also ruled that any payments to a temporary player will be included in Essendon’s Total Player Payments but they will be provided with a TPP allowance for those payments in a manner similar to the operation of the injury allowance.

interesting to see the philosophy, pick potential and try it out or pick ready made for short term stay.

Brock Maclean could be valuable as the latter if fit.

Be a laugh if they picked Gumby!

But how many players can they sign? is it a replacement for every suspended player, or just enough so they have 22 (Plus emergencies) for each game. If they can replace each player and have a full list than surely, port and WB should be able to replace their suspended players as well. Why should WB and Port have to suffer from the problem essendon made while Essendon get special allowances.

It's madness. The only reason they need all these top ups is because healthy players without injury or infraction notices are not playing in the nab challenge.

So instead of talking about 1-2 as injury demands we are discussing 15-20.

Port and the bulldogs do not have healthy depth players refusing to play for anonymity sake, hence extra players aren't given.

Maybe if campaigners on here stopped calling them cheats before their trial they wouldn't be so concerned about anonymity?

Chicken or egg?

It's interesting that the idea of top-up players is being left so late.

They must have thought up until recently that players were going to get off.

If they had brought in top-up players a few months ago it would have given them time to learn their gameplan, structures etc... Now these guys are coming in towards the end of a pre-season nowhere near as fit as the others who have been doing an AFL pre-season since November.

Just seems like terrible planning by the Bombers when the idea of players being banned has always been a possibility.

I guess that's what you get when the senior coach spends the off-season either overseas or fighting losing battles in court.
