Just of of interest, the TPP for 2006 was $6.47M. 2007 will increase to $6.94m.

It's an interesting exercise for those with the inclination, is to run through the playing list and keep with in the cap.

My word we must have some grossly overpaid players! Thats all I can say.

How our list is being paid the same as West Coast, Sydney or Adelaide is beyond me.

my thoughts exactly! If we can't offer T-Bird more than $150K the season after Kouta's big bucks contract ends then some guys are getting seriously overpaid! I think we need to get some mathletes down to the club to work out these payments

Kouta on Veterans list.. only half his salary goes into cap.. thus if Kouta is on 300k only 150K is in the cap.

This is my guess based on rumours, speculation, using 80k as a minimum, worth, games played, years on list etc etc, how we overrate our players. Rookies aren’t included in cap, aside from match payments and bonuses. 6.47 allowed. Doesn't take into account backloaded contracts either. You might believe some players are worth considerably less and I agree, however if we have contracted them a second time, we would raise the price accordingly IMO.

Walker - 200k
Russell - 80k
Murphy - 200k
Kennedy - 100k
Simpson - 140k
Whitnall - 430k
Saddington - 150k
McLaren - 150k
Lappin - 280k
Blackwell - 100k
Fisher - 180k
Teague - 180k
S O'hAilpin - 120k
Bower - 80k
Betts - 130k
McGrath - 150k
Hartlett - 80k
Stevens - 400k
Fevola - 450k
Deluca - 150k
Bryan - 100k
Scotland - 200k
Waite - 225k
Bannister - 120k
Thornton - 250k
Houlihan - 180k
Wiggins - 170k
Raso - 80k
Edwards - 80k
Bentick - 130k
Koutoufides - 280k (140k exempt)
Carrazzo - 150k

5,525,000

To be delisted

Livingston - 130k
Davies - 120k
French - 200k
Longmuir - 140k
Chambers - 120k
Prendergast - 140k
Sporn - 150k

Total list 6.375 million. Obviously figures are not right and many players are overpaid. Can easily see how we could stuff up our cap and not afford players. We surely must be paying less than this though because we had to fit 600k for Kouta under the 06 cap.

ODN in relation to Murphy and Kennedy,

as recent recruits aren't they on the standard price for first round recruits... so they should be both on the same price until end of next year when new contracts are renewed.

Don't believe everything you read in the media...I find it very hard to believe that we are only offering him 150k. Considering I think we signed Waite up for around 200-250k last year and Thornton has done a considerable more than Waite has.

I reckon we're probably offering him about the 225k for two years. We should be offering him 275-300k for 3 years and I hope that we do this real soon before we lose really our only capable defender at the moment.

I believe you can negotiate a price even in the national draft and top draft picks probably get more. I'm sure Murphy would be on more than pick 50 for example. At the very least there would be a bonus for the second year. I shouldn't have put 200k though, I kept changing the figures around and didn't proof read it before I posted it.

This link explains it nicely, albeit for 1st year 2007 players... but can use roughly same for Murph and Kennedy.

So by those figures Murph would of got around 77000K and Kennedy around 65K during this season, if they were allowed more I think we'd be too tight to pay more than we'd have to.

Murphy's contract would be back ended with the bigger money coming after the first 2 years because remember Brisbane offered him some ridiculous amount of money for 4 or 5 years, so technically he probably is getting about that just not right now.:thumbsu:

The allocation increase amounts to around 25% over five years. With around 7% in 2008, 3% the next year and 3% more the year after that and another 3% in 2011. All figures are approximate.

Thats why contracts are taking so long, as because of the increases the managers are playing hardball.

We are not the only club still negotiating a number of contracts, but the media just love kicking a club when it is down. The Age especially hates us. We should boycott their damn paper:p

Trying to leave future room for future wage increases for our young up and comers isn't helping

Geeze, when you look at it like that , there really is something wrong with the world. The majority of people survive on less than a dollar a day, and we are paying Kids $100k to play a game they are no good at. A game !

And to think theres blokes over here in the UK earning three times that each week......

Come on ODN thats a bit harsh:) he would be worth every penny.

How many other players are there in the AFL who cruise around getting easy kicks and think that hard ball get is a dirty word.....hmmmm:D

He is irreplacable:eek:

Houlihan is either first or second for hard ball gets at the club. Check the stats. They don't lie. Do you even know what a hard ball get is or watch football? And you have no idea how much he earns either so how can you comment on whether he's worth every penny.

Surely with only one real franchise player (Fevola) we would be running under the Salary Cap? Kouta's masive pay cut will send that down even further, anbd the only players I could imagine would be on anything remotely close to Fev would be Stevens and Whitnall. If Houlihan is getting paid 350K, I want a Brownlow next season thanks!

I really dont think the problem with Thornton is the salary cap, its probably just Smorgon trying to cut corners and save money. You would think getting, keeping and thus paying well the players would be a high priority, but obviously not in S-moron's case.

ODN, are you alright?? How many fingers am I holding up???:D

I'm fine with all that mate .... as long as he isn't on 350k. :D

i wouldnt think 350... 200-300 ... but 350 is a bit much and i dont care what abuse im gunna cop in the next couple of posts but houla hoops is a quality player and has great skills and while he isnt a goodes, judd or cousins he is an elite midfielder of the competition even if he is an outside player.

He has his benefits, but elite he is not. Sorry.

name 5 other quality fullbacks + he as youth going for him, i can think of polak... but other than that the rest are either 28-32 and are not the type of backmans for the modern running game

Very harsh. Man chill out:D Are you his love child or something:) ? You spend an awful lot of time defending him.

There are lies, lies and damn statistics:) call me a traditionalist, but I define a hardball as someone getting in and under a pack to get a ball out to a teammate or knowing you are about to be hit but going for the ball anyway and getting it to another player.

Sorry if I used the broader term of hardball get that seems to have upset you:) Just forget I mentioned get and concentrate on the hardball. Slipping into modern jargon shame on me. The term Hardball get these days is worth about as much as the term contested mark. Don't let statistics blind you to the realities of the modern game.

I noticed you let ODN's post, (that cracked me up in the first place), on speculation on his salary slide through to the keeper:D Pick your targets I guess.

It was a bit of fun mate. Ryan is a typical modern footballer and I'm not calling for his head. Don't be so precious:)
