This series doesn't seem to be popular around here but for the one or two that might be interested we now have a place to dicuss this upcoming masterpiece.
So what do we know?
Releases on Feb 17.
9 playable factions on launch including 5 chaos factions and 2 from each of Kislev and Cathay. 11 if you pre-order with the inclusion of the 2 Ogre Kingdoms factions.
No "Mortal Empires" on launch but I expect it will be included within 3 months after. For those unaware of what this means it is basically a grand campaign which includes all of the races and factions you own from the previous 2 games (and the most fun way to play the game).
The new level cap is 50 for lords and heroes.
You teleport via portals which appear every so often to the Chaos realms to complete quests and ultimately campaigns.
Diplomacy has been reworked and seems more palatable.
Sieges have been reworked dramatically.
Supply lines have been reduced
Winds of magic now capped at 100
I don't know shit about multiplayer but I think I've read you can do 8 man MP campaigns now and your turns run simultaneously. How any of that works I have no idea. Not sure if it is head to head, co-op or both. I just don't pay much attention to this sort of stuff but I realize some people might be interested.
Most change on the surface seems good.
I have been highly anticipating this game for a long time now. Warhammer 2 was well supported and offered unique campaigns and playstyles for each race, with each DLC becoming more and more extreme. I expect this to be supported for several years.
From the gameplay footage I've witnessed so far there seems to be more emphasis on unique campaign mechanics for each faction including the absolute stupidly broken Skarbrand mechanic of having your movement restored and being able to raise a dread host army for -50% upkeep whenever you raze a settlement.
Most rosters look pretty bare bones and seem to have pretty distinctive playstyles not allowing for much flexibility with your armies (DLC will change that eventually). Nurgle for example seems to be hard countered by speed and missiles while strong against melee focused armies. Chaos Undivided and Cathay seem to be the most well rounded rosters.
My biggest concern is the auto-resolve looks way too harsh. As someone who plays on legendary it seems I will have to fight every battle manually which will become way too repetitive and time consuming.
For anyone new to the series in need of help or advice I've spent almost 5000 hours playing WH2 at least half of that playing on Legendary and I've been keeping up with the WH3 gameplay and news so I don't mind answering questions and sharing knowledge as I can appreciate this series can be pretty overwhelming for newer players. The game forums are a bit of a cesspool of scum and floggery.
