What's everyone buying their kids at the Toy Sales?

This is our second year of toy sales, as our little fella is just 19 months old. He loves playing with his Little People, so Santa will be bringing more of them for him, and perhaps a swing & slide set.

lol, i work at kmart part time while im still at school, and ours starts at midnight tonight/thursday morning, and is open 24 hours. i have that many shifts its not funny, but it will be good to get some good deals on ps3 games and lego starwars

Slightly off-topic, but I turned on the TV during one of those after-school kids quiz shows yesterday, and every single commercial during one of the commerical breaks was advertising toys.

And all the toys these days look amazingly more awesome than the toys that were available to me growing up. I feel ripped off!

Don't feel ripped off!

A couple of years ago I had to visit eight toy/department stores before I could find a toy gun to wear as fancy dress for my 40th. None of them stocked toy guns as they were no longer deemed "acceptable".

I remember so much fun playing commandos and cowboys and indians and stuff like that as kids. Riding bikes around like maniacs with slug guns or slingshots at the ready. The kids today have none of those pleasures. And then there was the pleasure of fireworks....

I certainly don't. One of the major (should that be "few"?) upsides of having kids. You get to play with their stuff.

$2 shops are the go for all your plastic munitions needs.

As it happens, toy guns are barred from the TOD household. But then I'm quite okay with the little bloke ripping out an opponent's spinal column playing Mortal Kombat on Playstation.

It's simply my little way of making a bid for Parent Of The Century.

I remember at one point, combining some of our favourite interests (fireworks, and things that shoot other things) by fashioning some home-made sky-rocket guns.

Aaaah, good times.

Safe times.

Even Aldi has a toy/children's sale starting today.

Got my work cut out limiting the damage to our bank account with my missus doing some shopping this week.

I reckon the Kmart catalogue comes out on top.

I'm digging these magnetic Fridge Phonics by Leap Frog at Kmart down half price at $20.

Speaking of Little People, there's this Garage with a spiral ramp and elevator that I've been chasing for over a year though it is still steep at $64. There's a cheaper quality Disney Pixar Cars Spiral Speedway at $27.95.

Of all the tool sets, I like the Tonka Mighty Workbench at $39.95, assuming the tools are included.

The boy wants his own robot, not sure if an interactive R2D2 is what he had in mind at $189. How big are these things, anyway? For that money I expect life size.

The worst thing about these sales is packing the goods away until Christmas, what parent has that restraint?

Curtain rod and those mini rockets worked very well!

And then there were Roman Candle fights....

Great times indeed - and I still have both my eyes and all of my fingers and toes.

I also found that electrical conduit pipe worked a treat for making bottle rocket guns. Freshly stolen from local building sites of course (along with a few hundred metres of copper wiring - some things never change).

I've still got a scar on the back of my leg where I was shot by my neighbour while playing air rifle chasey in the late 70s.

I assume that the likes of British Bulldog, Brandy and Poison Ball are no longer permitted playtime activities in schools these days. No wonder we're heading into an era of moral decline.

DIY slingshots were always a lot of fun.

I hear that these days, if you get caught with one, you fall under the anti-terror laws. Considering that my two kids spent last night waking up every hour on the hour, I'm tempted to plant a slingshot on them and call the police.

Apologies.

I think I may have taught him that move.

Yep, that's the one. Attached to a wooden stock.

Crazy.

But fun.

Yes, thank you, The Fatality Wizard.

What's more, he's also picked up your habit of crying when he loses. :thumbsd:

I think K-Mart killed a kid for their new toy sale;

John Deere Scoop (KMart) is the go apparently, bloody missed out up here day 2 of the 2 week sale and they are all gone! Hopefully a friend in Adelaide will pick one up tomorrow and help make things right at home.
