Syd James is another one who appears to have no direct descendants.
After his playing career he competed as a sprinter and coached various teams and he appears to have split from his wife around 1940 as they appear at different addresses in electoral rolls from that point onwards (and he is buried with his parents rather than his wife). I can find no evidence of any children of the marriage.

He had one brother who had a son and there are apparently two living great-nephews but I have not been able to trace them - full name of one of them is Paul Michael James (first appears in electoral roll in 1980 so likely born late 1950s) but such a common name makes it difficult to trace

The chart says Paul M. James was born in 1958. Is it safe to assume that's correct?

There's a Paul James born in 1958 working at Western Sydney Uni. Long long shot but I might ping him with an (apologetic) email.
