Trade Hypotheticals 2013

Rocky is untouchable. Anyone who suggests different doesn't know much about our club or players. He will be our captain soon enough. It pick one we want.... We must get Boyd and another Sam Mayes type player.

Just do many different ways this could go, and it really is going to depend on who bring in over the trade period as to who we draft. Even how many academy players we take might have an impact. Going to be a very active off season. If we managed to get picks 13 and 18 for doc and longer I wouldn't be against using them on a KPF an KPD option keeping 7 for best mid. My only concern is we are going to need some foot speed and outside run, with Karni and Polec gone, we sudden need speed again.

Not really as those 2 played a combined 4 games this year.

Hey guys there is a rumour going around that Melbourne have contacted Tom Rockliff and pick 2 could be on the way to you guys.
Would you guys be happy with pick 2 for rocky?

No one cares about BS bigfooty rumours. Never going to happen and it's a joke of a rumour. To be fair, Melbourne might have actually floated that to us, but it has zero chance of happening. We'd need picks 1,2 and 3 and even then, I think I'd rather keep him.

Conway and Tickner for a packet of chips :)

Karnezis for Paine

Savage and Hawks' 1st rounder for Longer and our 2nd rounder

Hawks' 1st rounder and Polec for Port's top two picks

Yeo, Banfield and Port's 2nd rounder for Carlton's 1st rounder (Carlton and West Coast to swap 1st round picks in a deal to do with Yarran)

Docherty and our 3rd pick for Hampson and the Blues' 2nd round pick
We have something like picks 7, 12 and 13, 30 and 3 players :thumbsu:

Docherty and Longer to the Hawks for picks 17 and 20?

That seems pretty reasonable to me but do we really want to be drafting that many 18 year old kids?? I'd say we might trade away some of these picks for some ready made players.

We did that in 09 and it didn't go so well. I think the past couple of days have shown you have to lay the groundwork to get a player to your club months in advance of trade week. Also going on Leppa's comments we aren't actively pursuing anyone from other clubs.

Actually 2009 went quite well accept for Fevola. Happy enough to just use picks but I think that sets us back a bit

If we just got 5 draft picks for these guys it would be a terrible result. We'll need some players in that age bracket to replace them.

I had an idea today. The QLD Government are offering up to $500,000 for information leading to the arrest of a bikie gang.

Now as I've been told a number of times, Jake King sometimes hangs around these guys.

So my suggestion is to recruit him by trade means .... don't pay him too much ... get him to snitch ... and use the $500,000 on something.

I've heard it many times that 2013 is a skinny draft, with that in mind doesn't that mean that our early picks that want out would hold some reasonable value?

Thorpe want pick is he worth?

Melbourne's pick 2 is officially on the trade table and they've said 'someone whose been in the system for a few years but still ahs 6-7 years left'.

I doubt they'll find an attractive player offered to them for pick 2 in that sort of bracket (eg. the consternation on this board re: Rockliff being mentioned as a potential trade for Pick 2 would be repeated by every club in that situation).

I wonder if we could create a package of our homesick kids and or picks to entice Melbourne into a trade as the fall back on that pick.

eg. Pick 2 for Longer and Docherty (they desperately need better ruckman and another quarterback defender to support Grimes would be handy)

or Pick 2 and 20 for Longer and Pick 7

I reckon he'll go 30-40ish

Would be worth a look at that range for sure.

If Longer goes where is our back up ruck man seeing as Martin doesn't seem up to it.
Thorp is no ruckman, not big enough. He's a leading forward. Ben Brown is worth looking at for a backup ruck/forward though

I don't think Melbourne would be interested in longer: gawn, jamar, clark, Fitzpatrick, spencer all play ruck

If they trade pick 2 they'll want a proven a grader in the mold of sloane, rockliff, shuey etc

From the same source as Shuey to Melbourne for pick 2?

This is just Melbourne contacting clubs and using their first pick as bait.
PK to Coll for Paine
Yeo to WC for P24
Incredibly unlikely. Don't get me wrong, having lost Ebert and Stevens for less than perceived worth I know how this situation feels, however in Yeo's case market value and return is unlikely to reflect actual worth.

If it gets done, it will probably be for our 3rd round pick.

Koby Stevens played something like 11 games across 3 seasons for WC, so I'm not surprised he was traded for pick 44. Comparatively Yeo has played 27 games over 2 seasons and has shown a fair bit in those games and has established himself this season as a first 22 player. Stevens hadn't done that when he left WC.

If Stevens left for less than perceived worth yet was traded for pick 44, then Yeo for pick 40 is much worse.

What is the difference between 5 x18 and 5x 20 year old's who have played a handful of games? granted they have been in the system for two years but like Maye's last year there is nothing to suggest some of these players cant come into the team round 1.
Having five picks allows us to draft for needs, i am not saying all five will be stars but it may allow us to take a chance on a KPP earlier than we thought.

I am no draft expert actually, i have no idea but i don't think it is all doom and gloom, i just don't see the point of bringing blokes in of the same age because we lost five of the same age if they don't make our team stronger.

Because we'll draft up to 4 more 18 year olds to the senior list plus a couple of rookies.
