With all this crap that used to circulate about us trading for high profile players and tyurning them into duds i thought i'd do some comparisons.

Josh Carr
2006: 18 games, 192 kicks, 170 h/balls, 99 marks, 72 tackles, 7 goals
2004 (Final yr at Port): 19 games, 195 kicks, 161 h/balls, 65 marks, 58 tackles, 11 goals.

-Better now

Des Headland
2006: 15 games, 208 kicks, 55 h/balls, 80 marks, 28 tackles, 16 goals.
2002 (Finals yr at Bris): 20 games, 293 kicks, 95 h/balls, 139 marks, 54 tackles, 34 goals.

-Better then

Jeff Farmer
2006: 17 games, 151 kicks, 51 h/balls, 56 marks, 44 tackles, 40 goals (2.4 per game).
2001 (Last yr at Melb) 14 games, 132 kicks, 59 h/balls, 44 marks, 19 tackles, 33 goals (2.4 per game)

-Better now

Heath Black
2006: 19 games, 250 kicks, 145 h/balls, 100 marks, 43 tackles.
2004 (Last yr at StK): 20 games, 229 kicks, 137 h/balls, 97 marks, 41 tackles.

-Better now and last year was even better.

even schofield could of done that at brisbane with the team they had.o.k maybe not the tackles.farmers tackle count is interesting, obviously an increase in his defensive pressure

What about Luke McPharlin and Matthew Carr? :D

Decided it wasn't worth doing them two and Cookie we all know they have been much better in purple than they were at their previous clubs.

And Bell?

Interesting look at their situation.

Another thing I would like to see, but don't have the time at the moment, is that IF we hadn't traded and still had the players and draft picks, what would our current team look like? Not overly relevant and I do believe in trading, but would be interesting.

Bell cost us Clement, Holland (to Collingwood for their first rd pick on traded to the roos), Sinclair and our first round pick. Expensive fpr sure but worth it. We should have kept Clement though... no doubt.

Des cost us McPhee and pick 5 (turned into pick 3 because of the Carlton penalties). Brissy got pick 5 and Caracella, Essendon got Cupido and McPhee. I'm ok about that trade considering McPhee wanted to go.

Clement (and quite a few others) is a big part of the reason this club was held back for so long. He was never interested in playing for Freo, he wanted the bright lights of a club with 'history'. He obviously couldn't see the advantages of being a part of creating that type of 'history' with a new club.

Pretty sure we also got Pick 55 from Essendon for McPhee, although I could well be wrong.

So I believe it went:

Freo
Lose McPhee, Pick 5 (Jarred Brennan)
Gain Des, Pick 55 (Crowley)

Brisbane
Lose Des, Cupido
Gain Caracella, Pick 5 (Brennan)

Essendon
Lose Caracella, Pick 55 (Crowley)
Gain McPhee, Cupido

We did okay in hindsight.

And didn't Jamey boy have a rather ummm.. unhealthy obsession, about playing under Darth Vader??

Or have Mick on top??

Whatever, I forget, and good riddance to him.

Interesting point, it seems that the majority want to play for the team now. It must make a difference.

I always liked Clement and was frustrated when Drum did not play him, especially as we were crying out for tall backmen. But maybe he was one of those players who needs to be given the heave before he gets his act together. There certainly seemed to be a cruise control mechanism in place at the time.
