Well its trade time and although the luxury tax is making deals difficult hopefully there will be one or two blockbuster trades to spice up things a bit.

The lakers desperatly need a 3rd scorer and rebounder but not many teams out there want to heap them i think. The spurs are
looking at trading steve smith for elden campell, but i would prefwer shareef-abdul rahim.he would flourish not having to be the main man.Spree could be going anywhere at the moment.

Has anyone else got any thought on trade that they would like to see(and can work with the cap)?

Has 'Reef lost a leg or something?

If the Spurs - Hornets trade goes down, it will be moving dead wood for dead wood.

Steve Smith has gradually drifted further and further down the pecking order and is a regular DNP-CD on the box score.
Magloire of the Hornets has always had talent, but has really stepped it up this year and can match it with most big guys in the East with PJ beside him - thus Campbell is becoming expendable.

Both are on ending contracts, which the Spurs definately want.

Shareef is a gun, but he won't be coming to SA. The Spurs are setting their targets for a FA at the end of the season and I'm backing we all know whom. (What a fast backcourt we shall have:D )

If that goes down, the Spurs will be worth watching again.

They are a great side, with the best player in the league, but they are as boring as bat shit.

Love TD's game, but really, he makes Elliot Goblet look animated.

Do we need Kidd?the way parker is going im not sure anymore.Kidd will be 30 whilest Parker will be only 20.and hitting his prime in 2-3 years whilest kidd(as good as he is)will slowly start to decline in 2-3 years. It is a tough question.I guess if we want to win it all next year Kidd is the obvious choice.Maybe its best going for Jermaine O'Neal I dont know but its a good problem to have.

I would rather have Campell right now especially if dave keeps on getting back problems. At least Campell is still functional and playing for a contender my motivate him a bit, whilest smith is just riding the pine.I still fear the lakers and having another big man to combat Shaq will be handy.

its a trade atlanta were offering the spurs,i didnt just dream it up.Apparently they arent happy with reefs lack of defence and toughness and getting smith and his contract them will allow them to buy free-agents next year. With the big dog, jason terry and kukoc atlanta have no defence whatsoever.

So what's the problem? Given your theory, Kidd struggles in 2-3 years, right? If that happens, Parker would just take over the 1 spot, just as he's entering his prime. Sounds like the perfect deal to me.

A couple of things though. Kidd is a champion, i can't see him going into decline by the age of 32.
IMHO he'll be able to maintain his form for another 4-5 years.

Secondly, even an "in decline" Kidd will be better then Parker, and, for that matter, the majority of the PG's in the league.

Kidd is a champion PG, one of the best ever.

BTW Parker will be 21 at the end of THIS season.

Got a link to that story mate?

Excuse my scepticism, but the last thing Atlanta need to do is clear room in their cap. After all, Jason Terry is out of contract.

I can't see Atlanta (or anyone, for that matter) giving up the franchise player for nothing, especially considering they gave up Pau Gasol, Lo Wright and Brevin Knight to get him only 18 months ago.

Toni Kukoc doesn't play for Atlanta, hasn't done so for almost 12 months.

parker will be out of contract in 2 years.if we sign kidd it will be for 6-7 years, parker isnt going to sit on the pine watching kidd when he could be starting else where.kidd is a champion though and will bring a different dimension to the spurs(and to timmy duncan.it just will be hard seeing parker who we got at pick 28 walk away and is really blossoming into a great player.call me old-fashioned but i like seeing 1 team players something that is lacking in the NBA today.I dont think parker will end up as good as kidd but he will be in the top 5 point guards in 2 years

Why can't Parker merely move to the 2 spot?

I had this discussion with another Spurs fan on here, in it, i stated that i believe Parker could make an excellent 2 guard.

If Kidd does comes, Parker will have no choice.

If Kidd doesn't arrive in Texas, then that statement will be proven true.

the article was posted on www.hoopshype.com about reef going to spurs about a week ago but isnt there anymore.believe me when i saw it my eyes lit up and i started drooling over the keyboard

parker has the speed to be a shooting guard but his height(6-2) and light frame would hurt him especially against the bigger shooting guards.he also doesnt have that great a range (even though not many other players do anymore) and is more of a slasher

i dont think reef is a "franchise player" either simply just a very good player.he lacks the toughness to lead a team and would be better off with a quality big man next to him, something he has never had(unless u include "big country).he is a poor defender as well.this is his 7th season and he is yet to make the playoffs.

It's a debatable topic, but I believe Parker and Kidd can co-exist.

Edit: The Reef trade was supposedly thrown around. Atlanta want to blow up their team and Reef for some of our ending contracts was alledgedly offered.
Personally I believe the deal was pumped up alot from the orginal rumour, but we don't want Reef. We want Kidd.

I didn't say he was a genuine franchise player, merely said he was Atlanta's franchise player. Big difference there.

You can hardly hold that against him.

Not even Tim Duncan could have lead the then Vancouver Grizzlies to a winning season.

The bottom line is that the Hawks would never trade away their best player merely for cap room, especially when they can trade away Terry, a guy who will be leaving anyways.

Fair enough, i guess.

There was an article last week about Smith wanting to go to Atlanta. In it, Reef was mentioned, but merely because he is friends with Smith.

No mention of a possible trade between the two.

Where does Malik Rose fit into future plans? Haven`t seen many Spurs games, but it appears that he has stagnated. Or does Campbell just take over from DRob and the status quo and a healthy winning percentage remain in Texas?

malik should never have been given that big a contract.the spurs will only go for elden because his contract expires at the end of the season like smiths,so its doubtful they would keep him.he would be very handy though as a back-up PF or C to dave and tim during the play-offs.

Im not giving any 2 thoughts on how the spurs are going right now though as they always have a good season then fail in the second round or so in the play-offs.the opposition just suffocate tim duncan so unless we add a extra player or dave goes right off i think it will happen again.

Parker`s a better player, but the demise of Smith is a worry. Maybe Jackson is the player that could improve the most in the playoffs to get them past the second round.

A guard rotation of Jason Kidd, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker works for me. With Stephen Jackson able to play both 2/3, opponents would certainly have their work cut out on the perimeter.

There's no doubt in my mind that Kidd and Parker could co-exist. Parker would simply slide to the 2. Let's be honest here, Parker isnt exactly a passing PG, he rarely dishes out big assist totals, 8 dimes would be a good game for him, whereas Kidd would be disappointed with only handing out 8.

Parker could have his problems on defence being only 6'2 with a slight frame but Philly works it well with Snow and Iverson so their are way's around that.

IMO, if one of the two were to move, I think it would be Duncan. New Jersey is better than San Antonio, it's also a better city, right next door to New York. Rather than being stuck out in the midwest....

Also look at the supporting casts. Say Kidd comes to SA next season, Kidd and Duncan would be backed up by Jackson, Parker, Rose, Ginobili, Smith, Bowen....not good enough. Flip the script though and Kidd and Duncan are supported by K-Mart, Mutombo, Kittles, Jefferson, Harris...waaaay better.

Anyways, it's all conjecture and Duncan and Kidd are staying put at least til the offseason. What we should be talking about is possible deals that will happen in the next week or so before the deadline.

Smith won't be in San Antonio next season, Jod.

Kidd will go where he best thinks he will win a title, and with Duncan here (he ain't moving people), it's a likely scenario.

On to Malik. I'm a huge fan of the guy, and he had a rough patch that was beat up due to his contract. He tried too hard to suceed I believe. Malik needs to stick to what he does best. Hustle, energy, athelticism and a strong presence.

He has been gradually improving over the past month, and he is getting a hell of a lot of his game back. He's regaining his jumpshot and is getting near 10 boards per night with Pop showing faith in him during Davids absence.

We'll wait and see, but I firmly believe Kidd will be here in 2003/2004.

Then again...they could both go to Denver:D

Won't happen.

If TD arrives in NJ, Deke will have to go.

Deke has 2 years left on a max contract, no chance NJ could have three max contracts on their books.

Especially with both KMart and Jefferson coming up to big contracts.

Ah yes, I forgot. San Antonio have almost as much cap space to play with as any other team. NJ do not.

I like our odds.

Yep.

As things stand, i think only 2-3 teams could accomodate both TD and Kidd.

San Antonio, Denver and the Clippers.

I know which one i fancy.

New Jersey better than San Antonio????...i dont think so.They are a good side in a weak conference. As for your city "profile" New Jersey is known for being a dirty city in the cold east and cant attract fans even when they are winning.Kidd is from the West Coast and likes the Western Conference's style of play.Im sure"being stuck out in the mid-west" wont bother him with all that sun
