With all the talk about whether we'll keep Wilson :D , or Cummings and who we'll trade etc. I don't remember seeing much mentioned about us trying to trade or get a big name forward.

Hmmm, I wonder what we'd need to do to get Lloyd ;)

It's just too hard to trade to get a proven goalscorer with the salary cap.

The only big name to move who was a consistent big goalscorer I can think of in recent years was Plugger to Sydney - but exceptional circumstances for the Swans.

I suppose Paul Hudson to the Bulldogs, maybe, but he's a small goalscoring forward pocket. If you're talking franchise players, like FFs or CHFs in their prime like Dunstall, Brereton, Carey, Hird, Lloyd, Sumich, Kernaghan, even Lockett for many years, they tend to stay put. Scotty has been traded (twice so far) because he doesn't seem to be able to sustain it.

There's also a "success breeds success" self-fulfilling prophecy: clubs with such players, eg Hawthorn in the late 80s & Essendon recently, tend to have on field success, so the great players stay to win flags, so they have more success, so they stay etc.

I reckon we need to grow our own, whether it's Buszan, (a much improved) Hunter or a draft pick like Polak or Lynch.
